Sam Houston St. 62, Lamar 58
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP)—Chris Jordan hit two free throws with seven seconds left Thursday night as Sam Houston State held on for a 62-58 victory over Lamar.
Marcus Ebow had given Sam Houston State a 60-55 lead with two free throws with 19 seconds left, but Lamar’s Damany Hendrix countered with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 60-58 before Jordan went to the line.
Eddy Fobbs had 17 points and nine rebounds to lead Sam Houston State (12-5, 9-2 Southland). Felton Freeman scored 12 points for the Bearkats.
The Bearkats shot 62 percent from the field in the second half, compared to 41 percent for the Cardinals (8-9, 5-5).
Hendrix led Lamar with 15 points. Ron Austin added 12 and Lewis Arline scored 11. Arline had a team-high nine rebounds for the Cardinals. Eddie Robinson helped with eight assists.
Lamar lost for the first time at home in eight games this season.
The loss was the first home loss for Lamar this season.
