Fairfield 79, St. Peter’s 57
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Oscar Garcia scored 15 points and Deng Gai added 14 points as Fairfield beat St. Peter’s 79-57 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Sunday.
Fairfield (12-6, 8-1 MAAC) never trailed after the opening minute.
Nick Delfico added 10 points and six rebounds for the Stags, who shot a season-high 54 percent from the floor. Gai also added nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
St. Peter’s freshman Keydren Clark, who came into the game as the nation’s No. 4 scorer averaging 25.2 points, was limited to 12 points on 5-of-21 shooting. Devin Thompson added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Peacocks (5-12, 2-7).
Fairfield built a 46-27 halftime lead on the strength of 69.6 percent shooting.
The Stags played most of the game without starting guard Kudjo Sogadzi, who dislocated his right big toe 2 1/2 minutes into the first half.
Fairfield had a 46-31 rebounding advantage while limiting St. Peter’s to 32.9 percent shooting.
The Peacocks got as close as 66-52 with 5:54 remaining in the second half.
After St. Peter’s scored the game’s first basket, the Stags scored 12 straight points to assume control.
