Temple 82, Fordham 51
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Alex Wesby scored 18 points and David Hawkins added 16 as Temple snapped a three-game losing streak with a 82-51 win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls (4-11, 2-3 Atlantic 10) forced 25 turnovers and limited the Rams (2-13, 1-3) to just 16-of-48 (33 percent) from the field. It was Temple’s highest point total of the season and matched Fordham’s season low.
Brian Polk scored 14 and Keith Butler had a season-high six blocks for Temple, which had lost five of its last six entering the game. The Owls are off to their worst start since beginning the 1975-76 season 3-12.
Jermaine Anderson had 11 points and Mark Jarrell-Wright added nine for Fordham, but each turned the ball over seven times. The Rams have lost three in a row and 13 of their last 14 and are off to their worst start since going 2-17 in 1995-96.
Fordham turned the ball over 13 times and made just 7-of-27 from the field in the first half as Temple opened up a 36-22 halftime lead.
In the second half, after Fordham closed to within 12, Temple went on a 9-0 run, with an 18-foot jumper by Wesby making it 47-26 with 13:04 left. The Owls’ lead would reach 34 in the second half.
