Manhattan 88, Niagara 71

NEW YORK (AP)—Luis Flores scored a career-high 38 points and spearheaded two flurries that helped Manhattan beat Niagara 88-71 Friday night for its sixth consecutive victory.

Manhattan (10-3, 4-1 Metro Atlantic) took command with a 9-3 spree to close the opening half. Flores began the run with seven consecutive points on a 3-pointer from the left side and four free throws. The Jaspers led 36-30 at halftime.

Tremmell Darden had 17 points for Niagara (6-7, 2-2).

Manhattan pulled away with a 10-2 surge midway through the second half, keyed by Flores’ six points. He triggered the burst with a spectacular bank shot he brought up from his hip and ended the spree with two free throws that for a 67-50 lead with 8:29 left.

Flores connected on half of his 18 shots, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also sank 15-of-16 free throws and pulled down nine rebounds to go with five assists. Flores’ previous career high was 33 points, which he had accomplished twice.

Juan Mendez and James Reaves had 16 points each for the Purple Eagles.

Dave Holmes scored all 15 of his points in the second half for the Jaspers.
