LaSalle 83, Rutgers 75, OT
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—Gary Neal scored 10 of his 33 points in overtime to lead LaSalle to an 83-75 win over Rutgers on Saturday night.
LaSalle (6-4) won its third straight and snapped a three-game winning streak for Rutgers (8-4).
The game went into overtime after Mike Sherrod’s 3-point shot bounced out of the basket at the buzzer with the game tied at 65.
LaSalle won the game on a 6-0 run, getting two foul shots from Mike Cleaves, a slam by David Bell and two foul shots by Steven Smith.
LaSalle led 34-25 at the half, but Rutgers came back when Ricky Shields hit a 3-pointer to start Rutgers on a 19-11 run over the final 6:46. Shields had 13 of Rutgers’ final 19 points.
Rutgers trailed 65-62 before Jerome Coleman made two foul shots with 1:11 left and Herve Lamizana made one foul shot with 24.1 left.
LaSalle called timeout with 11.4 seconds left. Rasheed Quadri took a pass from Mike Cleaves inside, but the shot was blocked and rebounded by Lamizana.
Rutgers called timeout with 2.8 seconds left and nearly won it on Sherrod’s 3-point attempt.
