Charleston Southern 66, Fairfield 64
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Charleston Southern’s Ed O’Neil hit a running one-hander in the paint with four seconds left to snap a tie game and get the Buccaneers a 66-64 win over Fairfield on Monday night.
O’Neil’s basket came after Fairfield’s Michael Bell tied the game at 64 with 27 seconds remaining in the game. The Buccaneers (6-4) held for the last shot, calling a time-out with 14 seconds remaining to set up the game’s final play. O’Neil—who finished with eight points and eight assists—took the inbound pass and worked the clock down to eight seconds before breaking into the lane and letting go an off-balance shot.
Deng Gai had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Stags (5-4), who shot 50 percent for the game. DeWitt Maxwell added 11 points.
Charles White led Charleston Southern with 17 points and six rebounds. Kevin Warzynski had 14 points for the Buccaneers, who shot 49.1 percent from the field.
Charleston Southern led 35-33 at the half.
