RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Virginia Commonwealth scored 22 consecutive points in the first half and never looked back Tuesday night, beating North Carolina A&T 76-48 to give Jeff Capel his first victory as a coach.
Nick George scored 9 points and Willie Taylor 7 during the run, and the Rams (1-2) held the Aggies to 0-for-14 shooting and forced six turnovers. A&T (0-3) finished the first half shooting just 5-for-28 (17.9 percent) and shot just 29.2 percent for the game.
The Rams led by as many as 36 in the second half.
Taylor led the Rams with 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks. George had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Emanuel Mathis scored 13.
Stephen Koger led the Aggies with 20 points and Landon Beckwith added 14.
