OUTLOOK: The Hokies have a commodity that not too many teams in
the tournament possess - multiple senior leaders in Dowdell and
Gordon. The backcourt duo is very dangerous when they are on,
as Virginia Tech came out of nowhere to challenge for the ACC
regular-season title. Up front, Washington is an active body
who always appears to be in the middle of everything. The
Hokies' highlight of the season came when they beat Duke and
North Carolina in back-to-back league games in January.
Virginia Tech, which is in the NCAAs for the first time since
1996, actually swept the season series with the Tar Heels.
However, the Hokies enter their matchup with Illinois with three
losses in their last four games.

NEXT GAME: Friday vs. (12) Illinois at Columbus, Ohio
