Abilene Christian beats Northern New Mexico 78-56

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP)—Parker Wentz was 6-of-11 from three-point range, scoring 19 points to lead Abilene Christian to a 78-56 win over Northern New Mexico Saturday in the San Angelo Community Medical Center Classic.

Wentz also had three assists and four steals. LaDarrien Williams had 15 points and Austin Cooke put in 13 for the Wildcats (2-5).

The teams traded 3-pointers to start the game. Cooke hit the first one. Matthew Brito hit one for the Eagles and Wentz followed with one for ACU. Rodney Coles hit another one and the score was tied at 6 at the 17:53 mark. Cooke then put in two free throws to give the Wildcats the lead for good.

ACU had a 16-2 run the bumped its lead to 24-10 with 9:34 remaining in the first half. Northern New Mexico never got closer than 7 after that.

Brito led Northern New Mexico (5-2) with 15 points.
