Kangas leads Oakland to rout of smaller neighbor

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP)—Erik Kangas scored 19 points to lead Oakland University to an 88-54 rout of neighboring Rochester College Sunday afternoon.

Keith Benson added 13 points for Oakland, while Dan Waterstradt had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

DeWayne Watkins led Rochester with 15 points and Adrian Schaffer added 14.

The schools, which are located less than five miles apart in Rochester, have played 11 times, dating back to Oakland’s Division II days. The Golden Grizzles have won every time.

Oakland (6-5) was playing just its second home game of the season, and plays its next two—against Michigan and Michigan State—at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Rochester (8-4) plays in the USCAA.
