Owens scores 19 in San Jose State win

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—Robert Owens scored a career high 19 points to help San Jose State beat Cal State Maritime 79-37 Wednesday night.

Tim Pierce added 14 points as the Spartans (2-1) won their home opener. Chris Oakes scored 11 points and DeShawn Wright had 10 as San Jose State shot over 52 percent.

Andrew Johnson scored eight points to lead the NAIA Keelhaulers (3-2), who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Cal State Maritime shot under 27 percent.

Owens was 5-of-7 from 3-point range. The rest of his teammates were 4-of-16 from beyond the arc.

The Spartans outrebounded the Keelhaulers 43-25.

San Jose State, which led by as many as 44, held a 39-12 halftime lead.
