Delaware State opens season with 71-59 win
DOVER, Del. (AP)—Delaware State started its season with a 71-59 win over Division II Wilmington (Del.) University. Marcus Neal scored a team-high 12 points to lead Delaware State. Neal shot 6-for-14 from the field and added eight rebounds.
Three players chipped in with nine points apiece for the DSU (1-0). Frisco Sandidge grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the team.
Wilmington’s Antonio Sherrod led his team with 18 points. He was 5-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line. Wilmington last led 8-6 with 15:31 remaining the first half before the Hornets used a 12-3 run to pull ahead 18-11.
Delaware State is hosting the Hornet Classic, which also features Coppin State and Cheyney University. The Hornets will take on Cheyney on Saturday.
