Leath, McGhee key Sac State’s 72-54 win over William Jessup

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—Loren Leath had 22 points and five rebounds and Vinnie McGhee added eight points and 14 assists to lead Sacramento State over William Jessup 72-54 on Tuesday night.

Justin Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds and Jason Davis scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hornets (2-6).

Matt Cassell had 11 points and Max Botner and Lucas Birchard added 10 points each for the Warriors (5-5).

The struggling Hornets had a 13-point lead in the second half until the NAIA school came back to trim the margin on a free throw by Torben Seikowsky at the 4:13 mark to make the score 55-51. Sac State used a 17-3 run, defense and clock management to hold on for the victory.

The Hornets missed their first six shots, but recovered to lead 33-21 on a free throw by Jason Davis with 3:11 left in the first half. Sac State led 38-29 at halftime.
