Johnson scores 23, Botts has 20 to lead Mastodons past Marygrove 106-54

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP)—Jakari Johnson scored 23 points and Ben Botts added 20 as IPFW ran over Marygrove 106-54 Saturday.

Jaraun Burrows had 16 points, Demetrius Johnson had 11 points and 10 assists and Zach Plackemeier also contributed 11 points for the Mastodons (2-4).

Curtis Leavy scored 16 points for Marygrove (1-7), David Lewandowski had 15 and LaGary Brundidge added 14.

IPFW, which led 44-30 at halftime, reeled off 17 straight points, including eight by Burrows, to go up 70-36 with 13 minutes remaining. The Mastodons forced five turnovers during the run, including four committed by Marygrove’s Justin McKinney.

IPFW scored 31 points off 20 Marygrove turnovers during the game.

Marygrove dominated during the early going, leading by as many as five points, 17-12, on a Brundidge 3-pointer with 13:37 left in the first half. IPFW then scored 18 of the next 20 points to go up 30-19 on a 3-pointer by Jakari Johnson.

IPFW shot 12-of-26 on 3-pointers, including 5-of-9 by Botts. The Mastodons shot 66 percent from the field during the second half and 54 percent for the game.

McKinney had a game-high nine rebounds.
