Leading scorer and minutes-eater Demetri McCamey hit a running floater as time expired to lift Illinois over Indiana and improve the team's record to 6-3 in the Big Ten. It was the second straight win for the Illini after head coach Bruce Weber ordered the team to not talk to the media and asked them to reassign team captains.
Here's a good point of view from a fan-shot video. Love the moment of hesitation as the ball hangs in the air before dropping pure.
So, yeah, second place in the Big Ten for Illinois. Wisconsin is also 6-3 in the conference. No one is catching Michigan State, which is yet to lose a game. A loss in this spot for Weber's team would've really hurt its tournament resume. Perhaps the animated coach has really found a way to get through to his team in a serious manner? Or perhaps Illinois got lucky on a last-second shot against an improving-but-still-mediocre Indiana team. Which do you think it is?
