The Spurs made their biggest splash before the Draft, acquiring high-scoring small forward Richard Jefferson in a three-team deal with Milwaukee and Detroit. San Antonio gave up Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas.

Jefferson joins the formidable trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili as the Spurs took a major step in closing the gap with the Lakers in the Western Conference.

"He's got a toughness to him," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Jefferson. "He's a competitor. He gives us that added quality, which is important when trying to get a championship."

Popovich was an assistant coach on the 2004 USA Olympic team that included Jefferson and Duncan.

Veteran guard Michael Finley has told the Spurs he plans to return for another season. The 36-year-old Finley held the option on his contract for the 2009-10 season, which will be his fifth in San Antonio. The team announced Finley's decision Tuesday. Finley finished his 14th season with averages of 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 81 games.

Milwaukee sent swingman Richard Jefferson to San Antonio on Tuesday for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto, taking three aging bench players with expiring contracts to unload Jefferson and the $29.2 million owed in the final two years of his contract.

The Phoenix Suns will hold this season's training camp at the University of San Diego. The Suns said Monday that the camp will run from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Phoenix had held its training camp at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 2005, 2007 and 2008. The Suns' 2006 camp was held in Treviso, Italy, as part of the NBA Europe Live Tour.

An autographed Michael Jordan jersey has been stolen from the home of San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker. The Bexar County sheriff's office says Parker's manager reported the jersey missing last month. It had been taken from a gym under construction at Parker's home. Detectives found a listing for the jersey on Craigslist that was posted by Christopher James Carolan.

Spurs forward Fabricio Oberto has undergone a heart procedure and could resume strenuous exercise in about a month. The 34-year-old player has been bothered by arrhythmia the past few seasons. Last week's surgery was aimed at correcting the electrical impulses causing the atrial fibrillation. Oberto averaged 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds last season.
