Having already taken a huge punch in the gut when leading scorer Kevin Martin fractured his left wrist in the second week of the season, the Kings were staring at an early knockout when rookie star Tyreke Evans had his right middle finger X-rayed after Friday's loss at Dallas.

Fortunately, the Kings ducked this one.

The X-rays were negative, so Evans' status officially became day-to-day.

On Saturday, the rookie experienced the problem of having a sprained middle finger on his shooting hand.

You can't splint it, because that severely hampers your ability to dribble and catch the ball.

You can't even tape it, because that makes shooting anything longer than a layup troublesome.

And if you don't do anything, the banging not only could do...

The Houston Rockets kept their record clean in second games of back-to-backs. Still, it almost got a little messy in the fourth quarter. Jason Terry is accustomed to carrying the load for the Dallas bench. With the Mavericks missing three starters, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year got some much needed help from his fellow reserves Friday night. Terry scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, Dallas got 52 points from the bench and the Mavericks beat the Sacramento Kings 104-102 for their fifth straight win.

Sacramento Kings leading scorer Kevin Martin underwent surgery on his injured left wrist. The team says Martin had the procedure to repair a hairline fracture in his left wrist on Monday at the UC Davis Medical Center. Martin will be released from the hospital later in the day.
