The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to be one of the have-nots in the Western Conference again this season. Don't tell that to Portland coach Nate McMillan.

"You'd better be ready to play every game in our conference, or you're going to get beat," said McMillan, whose Trail Blazers play host to the Timberwolves Sunday night.

The Blazers have had their way with Minnesota the last two seasons, going 8-0 during that span. This year's Wolves have been feisty, though, behind the talents of center Al Jefferson and rookie point guard Jonny Flynn, the latter averaging 14.8 points while shooting .513 from the field.

The Timberwolves started 1-5, but the record includes losses to Boston by two points, the L.A.

A new-look lineup worked wonders for the Portland Trail Blazers, and coach Nate McMillan plans to keep it for a while. With Andre Miller joining them in the backcourt, Brandon Roy had 24 points, Steve Blake added 15 and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the San Antonio Spurs 96-84 Friday night. "It was a change of pace, maybe something we need," Roy said.

Tuckered out after a 42-point performance the previous night, Roy scored 16 and got aggressive late to finish out the Portland Trail Blazers' 83-74 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night.

Power forward LaMarcus Aldridge limped off the floor in the first quarter of the Portland Trail Blazers' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder because of a bruised right knee. A team spokesman said Sunday Aldridge's return is questionable. Aldridge came out of the game late in the first quarter and did not play in the second period after having his knee taped on the Blazers bench.

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum will undergo surgery on his right shoulder to repair torn cartilage. The team said Monday a return date will be determined after Friday's surgery in Los Angeles. Batum appeared in 79 games as a rookie last season, starting 76. He averaged 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds while earning praise for his defensive ability.
