Gordon, Wallace help Pistons beat 76ers 88-81 (AP)

If anybody thought Ben Wallace was going to just play out the string this season with the Pistons, they had better reconsider. That's not at all how it's working out. Wallace has been rejuvenated by his return to Detroit, providing the same contributions that helped the Pistons win the 2004 championship and nearly repeat a year later.

After a 31-point home loss to the Celtics, Sixers coach Eddie Jordan insisted four games into the season was no time to panic.

"I have great patience," Jordan said. "It's the fourth game of the season. I'll have great patience at the 40th game of the season. There's never frustration with me in this job. It's a challenge every day."

Never mind that the Sixers' three-point defensive work, running of the Princeton offense and perimeter shooting had been so disappointing in the early going.

Andre Iguodala and the Philadelphia 76ers did just enough to win. With the Sixers still stinging from a 31-point loss three nights earlier, that was just fine by them. Iguodala scored 16 points, including a late 3-pointer to give Philadelphia the lead, and knocked the ball away from Terrence Williams' hands before the Nets could attempt a tying shot to give the 76ers a 97-94 win over New Jersey...

The 76ers seemed ready to deliver a quick knockout in the undercard bout of a weekend chock full of Philadelphia-New York fights. Instead, it turned into a Halloween thriller. Andre Iguodala scored 32 points, including the go-ahead three-point play in overtime, and the 76ers blew a 23-point lead before beating the Knicks 141-127 on Saturday night.

The 76ers have almost been forgotten by a city whipped into a World Series frenzy. Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand gave a reminder why they might be worth watching long after fans have put away the Phillies T-shirts for the winter. The Orlando Magic didn't spend much time hoisting their Eastern Conference championship banner. They didn't take long to adjust to a revamped roster, either. Dwight Howard had 21 points and 15 rebounds, Vince Carter scored 15 points and the new-look Magic rolled to a 120-106 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.
