Somebody had to come out a winner in the whole debacle with Allen Iverson and the Grizzlies. Might as well be Jamaal Tinsley.

Tinsley, whose career was almost derailed after off-the-court problems led the Pacers to ban him from the team last year, then buy out his contract in July, has happily found a home with the Grizzlies.

Tinsley, 31, was signed about two weeks ago when Iverson went AWOL from the Grizzlies before the team released him. Tinsley, who averaged 11.8 points and 8.4 assists for the Pacers during 2007-08, the last time he played a full season, has embraced his second chance because he knows exactly who he is.

"I'm a point guard. I know what they want," Tinsley said.

The Memphis Grizzlies may not be a contender yet, though they were impressive in beating one Friday night. Zach Randolph scored 21 points, and the Grizzlies beat the Portland Trail Blazers 106-96 for their fifth victory in seven games. Memphis (6-10) is still far down in the Western Conference, though it may not be long if the offensive-minded Grizzlies keep it up.
