The Lakers have gotten so good that Kobe Bryant doesn't even have to save his energy to play great defense anymore. Ron Artest is around to do as much dirty defensive work as is necessary.

Bryant did, however, bring back memories of his recent defense-first Team USA persona by trying to pester Golden State's rising star Monta Ellis on Saturday night. Ellis had dominated the previous three Warriors games, averaging 37.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 4.3 steals against three strong Western Conference teams in Portland, Dallas and San Antonio.

Ellis' line against Bryant and the visiting Lakers: 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, one steal.
