Wolves waive Ratliff, headed to Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are about to land the veteran big man they've coveted — and his name isn't Dale Davis.

The Minnesota Timberwolves placed veteran center Theo Ratliff on waivers Thursday night and have agreed to buy out the remainder of his $11.6 million contract. If Ratliff clears waivers in the next 48 hours — which is almost a given with his salary — he will sign with the Pistons for the prorated amount of the veteran's minimum ($1.3 million).

Ratliff, 34, was drafted by the Pistons in 1995. He has only played 12 games the last two years, but he is healthy now. He played in the last 10 games with the Timberwolves, averaging 6.3 points and 3.9 rebounds

THIS will BE A BIG TIME ADDITION FOR THE PISTONS!!!!! he can guard any big man and can change the game with his long reach and blocking shots!! this can put the defensive pistons over the top in the east..and maybe in all of basketball.. they can win anywhere and on the road.. and if they can keep a home court advantage over the west ,,, there chances are very good..

sorry i did mean pistons, just reading too much at once (ie cassell), and 4blocks equals about 8points a game, which he wishes he could score everynight.
and he has only played 12 games in 2 years!!! we i guess he'll only play 15min a night, but i think he is gone.

doesnt matter celtics are getting cassell and they already got pj brown.....those two additons fix ALL the MINOR problems that the celtics have had this year, if the pistons dont get the 1 seed in the east then they could be headed for a rematch with the cavs, and lebron is a piston killer....the celtics also are just now starting to gel...we know who the pistons are their the same team they have been for years....the celtics are just now realizing their potential, i look for them to really go on a tear the last 20 games of the season and carry that momentum all the way to the finals......

I'd much rather have Theo instead of Dale Davis for the simple fact he is far more athletic to run with the likes of Stuckey, Johnson, and Maxielle.
P.S. Matt Millen called me and assured me that Kwame Kilpatrick is the right person for the job of mayor in Detroit.

I actually was upset when we got rid of him originally so I'm glad to see him coming back. We will finally have some depth at the 5. Dyse and Maxiel (sp?) were kicking a$$ but this should help a lot.

Let me start by saying that both additions are key. The Pistons, Celtics and Cavs can play with all the teams in the West. Cassell, is a floor leader. That is what the second team there needed. To get the scores the ball in good situations and run the offense. Perfect fit. Pistons adding Ratliff is what they need. At Center they were missing some size, shot blocking and he can hit that 6 to 12 foot jumper. Perfect fit. Cavs big tread got them what they were lacking. Wallace rebounding and shot blocking = more shots, And they added shooters. I think the only Team that these teams do not match up with is Lakers, but these are leveling the field with these moves.

Joe D. is the smartest man in Basketball. The Pistons are considered one of the best teams in the NBA and they do not have a superstar on the team. Joe D knows how a team works and is very good at judging chemistry. He has made a few mistakes (i.e. Darko), but Ratliff is a fine team player and should mesh well with both the Pistons veterans and the Pistons young guns. Welcome Back Theo!

4 blocks a game = no one drives to the basket, well the few who do go there thinking more about getting stuffed than putting it in. and 15 min a game of making outside players jump shooters on already great defenders (if he proves he still throws great block parties) that is 15 min of slowing his guy and at least 2 others on the offensive end. and defensive stops are worth more than points, especially when it leads to fast breaks

It's going to be the Pistons vs. the Celts in the Eastern finals. And with the young players showing the Pistons a promising potential future, it's going to be a great matchup. All seven games will be played.

Theo's coming back to Motown? Hunter came back and they won the championship. Theo would be a good move. Like to see him back here.
Hey Emperor....I would'nt rule out the Cavs beating one of those teams though. The Pistons V. Celtics would be great for Basketball. An old rivalry back again. Lenny. Lenny. Lenny. Just make sure you tell the authorities your new home address if you move.

I wonder how much total $$$$$ the Wolves will end up paying in 2007-2008 to "McFail's Navy" to either sit on the bench or to just go away?
    The list is so long I tend to lose track;
    Thud
    Howard
    Walker
    Theo
    Who have I missed?
Other than the New York has any front office ever wasted this much money?

I'm surprised he isn't hurt! This guy hasn't played a whole season ever, nor is he worth veteran money. I am surprised he has been able to stay in the NBA! If he goes to the Celtics that will just be one more player on injured reserve! LAKER BALL BABY!

The Celtics are good but they arent that good. The Pistons do have the same team they have had the past 5 years but they know what it takes to WIN. The Celtics are filled with a bunch of guys who have never accomplished anything in the playoffs. Its a whole nother world in the playoffs and I dont think Boston will be ready for it. They have been the laughing stock of the league the past 3 years until this year. Those 3 guys cant change what the Pistons 5 plus solid bench brings each night. The Pistons will reach the East Finals again but this time will face Orlando as the Celtics will loose to Orlando in the 2nd round. Detroit will face Cleveland in round 2 and win. Detroit over Orlando in the East... Phoenix over Utah in the West and Detroit NBA Champs. Nuff said.
