The New York Knicks took possession of the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 97-92 win over the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday night. However, the New York Daily News reports that Chauncey Billups(notes) suffered a right thigh bruise in the second half and sat the fourth quarter while Amar'e Stoudemire(notes) finished the game despite spraining his left ankle.
It isn't clear if either Billups or Stoudemire will be in the lineup against the New Jersey Nets Friday night. "We want to make sure we're 100 percent for the playoffs," Stoudemire said, according to the Daily News. "So we'll see what type of approach we take."
Billups sat out two weeks with a similar injury in March, the paper notes, so it's not good news to have such pain only days away from the team's first visit to the playoffs in seven years.
"I want to play," Billups said, the paper reports. "I feel I'm back and playing well. I don't want to miss any time. If I can play I'm going to play. The smart thing is just to be smart."
