As long as Kobe Bryant scores 61 points every night, the Lakers should be just fine.
But there's that little issue of fatigue over the course of the season, not to mention the difficulty of actually accomplishing it consistently, and, of course, the fact that his coach doesn't want him expending that effort every night at the risk of shutting out other teammates, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Bryant's outburst Monday against the New York Knicks was something to behold — 19 for 31 shooting, 20 for 20 from the free-throw line and two Madison Square Garden records — though Lakers Coach Phil Jackson assumed his customary share-the-ball mind-set a day later, lest the triangle offense become a little too one-sided.
Jackson exhibited a serious stance when asked if Bryant could sustain that type of blistering pace, perhaps even tonight against the Toronto Raptors, the same franchise he burned for 81 points a little more than three years ago.
"We don't want him to because we have so many other players that can contribute," Jackson said. "Obviously with Andrew [Bynum] out, we're missing a piece of scoring there that's been effective for us. At the end of the game [against New York], Pau [Gasol] was feeding Kobe and finding him in certain situations where he probably could have persisted in the post himself.
"I talked to [Bryant] after the game and said, 'Why don't you let me know when you're going to go off like that before a ballgame so we can measure it out accordingly?' But when he started out that hot, everybody fed into it and it just kept accumulating."
It's not the first time Jackson has advocated a return to normalcy after a Bryant scoring spree. It's ingrained in Jackson's basketball mind that one player simply can't win games over and over again.

Lebronze-me couldn't shoot 61pts even if there was no one on the court.....
In the finals against Maun Ginobli, Lebronze-me shot 28% and 0-60, In the Lakers Game, he shot 38% against Luke Walton and they say he's good LAYUFA!!!
Mehmet Okur has more triple doubles than Kobe-me and Lebronze-me. Kobe-me shot 61% thanks to Gasol and Luke Walton...they are truly MVPs this season
Darko Milicic has more clutch shots than both those overrated clowns, showboating and media is what they are here for...
Legendary figures Bob Cousy and Larry Bird are the gGreatest Of All time..
LAYUFA!!!

and selfish kobs bryant does,
he will NEVER measure up to the competitive,
easy spirited,
enjoyable michael jordan. never. michael
was fun. he was goofy. he was incredible. he never needed a "shaq".
on the other hand,
kobe is angry,
strange,
selfish,
bitter,
and often times difficult to watch
when he melts down in personal drama.
i wish him well...to a degree. i mean,
he'll never outlive the ghosts of MJ. it'll never happen. they'll always say,
"michael did it without a co-superstar". kobe
will always need help - and more than that,
he'll never win another title again. i can
guarantee that.

Being able to still do other things when scoring over 50. He had 0 rebounds and only 3 assists.
Every time he scores over 50 he lacks in all of the other areas......rebounds, assists, defense.............
Why is that?
LeBron scores 50 and damn near gets a triple double...................

Why do you think that Kobe always struggles in other areas when he scores 50+?

Scottie Pippen- HOF & all-star, Blazers franchise player
Dennis Rodman- Defensive Player of the Year & Rebounding Leader multiple times, even before he got to the Bulls
Toni Kukoc- Was the Pau Gasol or Dirk Novitzki equivalent in Jordan's era
Ron Harper- One of the most explosive PG in that era. My friend says that he would have been a franchise player if he didn't get injured.
Horace Grant- one of the best big man in that era.
Steve Kerr- 3 point shootout king
That's just some of Jordan's teammates. To say that he had no help is very dumb. Rodman can shutdown almost any big man Including Shaq, Malone, & Mourning & make them play like average big men. To get 20+ rebounds against those guys is crazy. Jordan had the best cast possible assembled for him. You can't win a championship by yourself, see what KG, Allen & Pierce did those were 3 franchise players of 3 different teams. To say that Jordan did it alone is blasphemy to all his teammates & the Bulls organization who made it work.
