The Miami Heat departed Monday for its weeklong European trip, which includes three days in Paris and three in London. Each city will be treated to a pre-season game between the Heat and New Jersey Nets. Between workouts and games the players will be tourists, visiting attractions such as the Eiffel Tower and Buckingham Palace.

The long flight and week away from home could be a drag, but the Heat believes the journey will have its benefits.

"No question it's going to be a very important time for bonding and building team chemistry," guard Dwyane Wade said.

He not only speaks from experience - Wade was part of the U.S. Olympic team that spent much of the summer together, including two weeks in Beijing - but he has done his due diligence. Wade knows that last October, the Boston Celtics spent 10 days in Rome and London. They used the time to cement relationships and lay the groundwork for a season that culminated in the franchise's 17th NBA title. Forward Kevin Garnett said at the time that the Celtics were creating cohesiveness while spending time together abroad.

"We've been walking around, just being together, not force-fed," he said. "Usually, when you have situations like this, it comes off commercial, but this has been cool. It's just happened."

The Celtics returned to the States with a team motto: Remember Rome.

This not to say the Heat will return expecting to be crowned NBA champions in eight months, but the players do expect to be more connected.

The heat sucked last year. But with Wade, Marion, Haslem, and Beasley, they could be a solid squad.

what ever, just win more games this season and get ready for a championship run next year as well as Wade trying to sign a new contract early next year to get rid ofany distraction for the team, and so that Riley knows were they stand so they can start clearing up money for additional help at center and package Banks, and Quinn somewere for a reall quality pointguard while Mario becomes something special and Livingston heals 100% if possible.

I'm not entirely impressed with the Heat squad. Anytime you're contemplating making Mark Blount your starting C, you're screwed. The Wolves with KG couldn't get to the playoffs with him. Wade's turning into a jumpshooter (which he shouldn't be) and Marion doesn't have the tools to be the focal point of an offense (but he's awesome). Beasley probably won't be what everyone is making him out to be this year. Can you say Derrick Coleman?

you're looking at one of the best players of all time. either being the best shooting guard in the league or second best......kobe being more experienced, games, championships, and more points all time. This guy is the most physical shooting guard in the league and for his position he is the best playmaker. Give it time, he will win another title, maybe 5-6 years down the road, and he may very well get MVP this year being if he can stay healthy. He will go down as one of the best of all time.

I'm making a preseason prediction-Houston with the addition of Ron Artest, and a healthy Yao and T-Mac will make a run for the Western finals and might knock off LA.

The Knicks will have another losing season. Marbury is the best player they have and should be starting.
The critics should stop hating on him and calling him a distraction. These guys never played any kind of organize b-ball in their life and they think they know everything which they don't.
He is better than shot first no defense playing Crawford or no defense always out of shape Curry and Nate who most of the time is out of control even though he plays hard everynight.
They Knicks should have traded Crawford and Curry and keep Zack who is a beast on the boards.
The coach gives a contract to a rookie after one game is unheard of.
Their first round pick will be a bust-Hey Coach I guess your favoring your old freinds kid. He is not even good enough to ride the bench on any other team.

The Heat are going to be sick with marion wade and beasley. Them playing fast ball will allow less rebounds by the centers and you always have wade sg pg duo... remember....not saying theyll win championship but theyll make it to the playoffs

I hate to say this but basketball is a team game and you need time to gel. Dwane, Marion and Beasley will only be playing together as a team this season, for a team to be cohesive you need at least a couple of years to play together, anyway since they're a young team if they'll reach the playoffs despite playing together only for say months before the regular start of the regular season it will be in itself an achievement. The trio in Dwane, Marion and Beasley is one of the best in the league just allow them to gel and with the addition of Shaun L they'll go places.
    LA forever..............

the heat can be a playoff contender if they have enough support.. look at their bench.. they have players who just average about 20-25 minutes per game.. good thing beasley is showing why he is worthy of a number one pick.. he is dominating in rebounds.. maybe in 2-3 years and some lottery picks.. they can be like the hawks or even better than them.. HORNETS will win..
