Former New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower and Washington Wizards exec Tommy Sheppard are the two newest names to come out as being possibilities to take over as GM for the Phoenix Suns under new head of basketball operations Lon Babby, according to ESPN.com.
Cleveland Cavaliers assistant general manager Lance Blanks interviewed for the job on Friday, the site reports.
The Suns' first choice was Dell Demps, but he took the job opening in New Orleans.
A source to ESPN said that Babby isn't rushing to make his decision. The former agent wants someone with a more traditional basketball background than him to be his No. 2. "I'm going to play to my strengths. I know what I'm good at," Babby said in his news conference when he first joined the Suns. "I know what I'm not good at. I've never told anybody I was Red Auerbach. I have no expectation of taking the lead on those kind of talent-evaluation questions. My first order of priority is to bring somebody in here who is a basketball genius."
