Shaq says Kobe MVP, puts Stoudemire ahead of Garnett

When asked for his thoughts on the MVP race, Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal didn't hesitate.

"The Kobester," he said, referencing his old teammate and occasional foil, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. "He's an assassin, with LeBron [James] coming in right behind. After that, I really haven't been paying attention."

So some brave soul raised the possibility that the guy across the hall in TD Banknorth Garden — Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett -- might be in the discussion as well. O'Neal shook his head. No way.

"I'm going to have to go with my guy before him," he said, motioning to teammate Amare Stoudemire's locker. "All day, every day. Garnett doesn't play defense".

    Umm AMARE doesn't play defense.
    Look up Garnett's name in the dictionary and the first word you see is defense.
    Shaq needs to calm down about the whole Amare is the best big man in the league thing.

    is Shack for real, Garnett is the best defensive big man in the NBA. Amare doesn't play defense. What has gotten into shack these past days. Someone please call Mental Health, Gosh the doctors in Phoenix using steroids or something????

    how can shaq comment on garnett's defense when the big oaf doesn't even MOVE! listen FATTY, if you average less blocks and less rebounds you should just STFU. even during your best playing days you NEVER play with the intensity KG plays with. had KG played with kobe he wouldn't won at least 5 rings!

    I think the heat out in the desert has gotten to shaq's brain! Garnett's doesn't play defense, yeah and steve nash doesn't pass the ball enough. whatever. KG is the hardest working skill player in the nba. Period. Shaq just won't give him his props, because kg & amare don't like each other (or at least they play like it), and shaq's a good teammate & wants amare to think nobody is close to him in the league. You can give the mvp to whomever u want, but give this years ring to kg..(besides he already has his mvp award from t-wolves)

    Nicely said #17 hun. Show that Texas person who's boss...Kobe is awesome on the defensive side. I've even seen it myself for a few games. You're just jealous that the Spurs don't have up and coming talent like the Lakers do. So if I were you Texas, I'd pipe down that big mouth until the season ends, or don't even come on here at all.

    what the..... dont you suckers realize that kobe is trying to play the best scorer on the opposing team??? and for garnett.... he plays amare on offense but on defense he doesnt want to play amare.... kobe is brave enough to play the best player on the other team unlike kg

    you guys are all jokes. Kobe is a great defender, so is Garnett. Shaq is only trying to motivate Amare to actually play some defense because he realizes that's going to be the Sun's Achilles Heel in the playoffs. Shaq's team isn't going anywhere until Amare starts defending people.

    and Texas you're obviously forgetting that the Lakers ars short of 3 big guys. Sure we've allowed 100 almost every game, because we don't have one 7 foot guy in the lineup. I'd start Fisher/Sasha, Kobe, Odom at SF, Turiaf at the Power position, and DJ at the center spot. what do you guys think??
