Shaq may return sooner than later

Shaquille O'Neal said Saturday his goal is to return to the Miami Heat as soon as possible.

Discussing his left hip and quadriceps for the first time since a Tuesday MRI revealed acute inflammation, the Heat center said he would return when 70 percent healed.

"I wanted to be back out there with the guys," he said before missing Saturday's 98-96 victory over the Indiana Pacers, his second consecutive absence.

O'Neal previously had said he would play when "1,000 percent."

Why would the Heat want to rush back a slow medicore center? All he will do is, in the order, 1) Complain about not getting the ball, 2) Put up numbers that Mark Blount would outperform, 3) Get reinjured

I still think Shaq playing at 75% is better than many of the centers in the league at 100%.

In an ailing season, shaq has averaged 14 points on 58 percent shooting,8 boards, and 1.7 blocks. That's pretty freaking good if you ask me. Much better than mark blount. I never understood why people complain that Shaq calls for the ball too much. He shoots 60%! The team needs to score more than McLovin, and the guy is only taking 10 shots a game? You have got to be kidding me. Shaq daddy should come back ASAP. Put on that Icy hot heatpad and freaking ball up.

Shaq surely can contribute and i too think that he still is valuable at the C position given the FG percentage and also rebounds and blocks statistics but, what change would that bring to the Miami Heat?
Shaq or no Shaq, they are not going to the playoffs so why bother and why create a situation where both shaq and wade can punish their bodies even more, what good can that do?
Ok, give them 20 minutes, but try to make Wright, Quinn, Johnson or Cook valuable players for next season and THEN play both shaq and wade.
Riley should give the kids much more playing time and by doing that prepare Miami for the next season!
I doubt that he has the capacity to do that...

They have an obligation to play, championship or no championship, make a difference or not, win or lose. The guy is a basketball player and if he wants to play, he will play. He is the most accomplished player in the league right now and nothing in all the negative that was happening to the Heat is his fault. at 70 percent he is still better than 70 percent of the centers in the league.

#20.. By what estimation do you consider Shaq the most "accomplished" player in the league?? He's great but by no means the most accomplished... I would consider Tim Duncan the most accomplished with his awards and championships, not to mention the winning% the Spurs have since Duncan joined them(Best in any major sport). And if you are basing your judgement strictly on championship rings, then Robert Horry is the most accomplished player in the league.

the only reason he's coming back is because they won yesterday..i think its about time shaq stops faking injuries and finishes a season right..

well I think Patrick is right, in the sense of at 70% health he's still better than 70% of the centers in the league. We all know Shaq is getting old, its a fact of life. People always say hes only scoring 14 pts a game. Thats not what you have to look for. He is still shooting 58% from the field with less shot attempts. Shaq still contributes more than what shows up on the scoreboard. What happens whenever he's in the paint and they give him the ball? The other team double teams him, sometimes even triple teaming him, which leaves shooters wide open. The Heats problem isn't Shaq, or D-Wade. They miss Kapono, and Posey. Jason Williams just runs down the court and heaves up a 3 at any given time.
