NBA - Sports Rumors

“RonThe New York Knicks has been clearing up its roster for years in order to create enough salary room next summer to go after all of the big-name free agents: LeBron James(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), Chris Bosh(notes), Amare' Stoudemire, etc. But Ron Artest(notes) is saying the Knicks will be extremely lucky if the team gets any of those guys.

Artest told the New York Daily News that free agents are a little frightened to go play for New York. "I think people need to stop being scared and go to New York," he said. "They're scared. They're so scared of the pressure and the media. That's why I went to St. John's. People were like, 'Don't go to St. John's because you don't need the distractions.' I was like, 'I'm going here because I want to go here.' If I wanted to play for the Knicks, I would play because I wanted to play and I wouldn't feel no pressure from anybody."

Of course, as everybody knows, Artest is not afraid of anything.

They already missed their chance at him in the draft and took a 17 year old from france that never played a minute.

the knicks killed the careers of starbury, stevie franchise, penny hardaway, eddy curry and countless others since the scott layden era.
it killed isiah's rep and coaching/executive career. it destroyed don chaney and lenny wilken's prestige. even larry brown had a hard time landing another coaching gig after one disastrous season despite back-to-back final appearance right before he came to new york.
    madison square garden is cursed.

After Isiah finished doing his hatchet job on the Knicks, is it any wonder that anyone wants to go and play there? The Knicks are history- they will never be but what they are today. But then again, you reap what you sow.

7.. kNICKS DIDNT kill Stephon Marbury's career, he did it to himself. He was a selfish prick that wasn't interested in being a team player, fought with his coach, always put himself above the team. He was overrated anyway. Hardaway had a patella bone spur that he never wanted a surgeon to touch and played with pain. His choice. Steve Francis?? You are joking right? Eddie Curry??? Well documented heart condition. Make me laugh some more, he is 100 pound overweight in the off season, doesn't like conditioning work...how does he expect to do well let alone live a healthy life beyond BB?

goldeneagle i know you are joking. isiah killed his own rep and never had a coaching/executive career to begin with. he killed everything he touched. starbury was what he always was pre-MSG, francis was washed up when he got there, same with penny. penny was a shell of a player, eddy curry? maybe if he took the game seriously he would have success. it isn't MSG that is cursed, it is the people you mentioned that all sucked ass to begin with!

lol honestly I don't think any of the free agents care what Ron Artest thinks. It's going to be all about the money and comfort, having a chance to win titles will be a distant 3rd for most (not saying it couldn't be a tiebreaker, but it's definitely not the most important factor for most of these 20 year olds).

Lebron and Wade wont go to NYK, Bosh, Joe Johnson and Amare are the Knicks best chances at landing a big name FA. To wade and bron its bout winning a championship and they dont have to prove they are one of the top 3 players in the NBA (LBJ, Kobe and Wade). Bosh may move because he'll get paid and will get more media attention in NY, JJ as we all know just wants to be the man in his team and get paid (JJ will never be in a championship team where he is the man), and Amare just might want a change of local if the suns flame out this season. Among the 3, Amare the least likely to move (coz of Nash) and Bosh is the most likely to move (lousy team and not a great place to get media attention).

@joecas and robert: isiah was a well-respected executive when he was with the raptors in the late '90s credited with drafting tracy mcgrady, damon stoudamire, and marcus camby. when he replaced larry bird as the head coach for the pacers in 2000, he was credited with rescuing jermaine o'neal's career and his subsequent development as a player.
you can make fun of his boneheaded moves all you want, but scott layden already put the knicks in a horrible position before isiah took over with allan houston, shandon anderson, howard eisley, clarence weatherspoon, etc. the ownership didn't want to rebuild from scratch, so all isiah could do was to trade bad contracts for bad contracts.
plus you can't argue with the fact that he found good value from his draft picks: david lee, wilson chandler, nate robinson, renaldo balkman, channing frye. lee was a huge steal at #30. chandler and balkman were unknowns before the draft and they are solid NBA players. nate robinson was a steal at #21 considering that julius hodge, rashad mccants, yaroslav korolev, fran vazquez, martell webster, gerald green, sean may, antoine wright, ike diogu, joey graham were all drafted ahead of him.
i don't think any of isiah's draft picks turned out to be bust.
