The New York Knicks has been clearing up its roster for years in order to create enough salary room next summer to go after all of the big-name free agents: LeBron James(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), Chris Bosh(notes), Amare' Stoudemire, etc. But Ron Artest(notes) is saying the Knicks will be extremely lucky if the team gets any of those guys.
Artest told the New York Daily News that free agents are a little frightened to go play for New York. "I think people need to stop being scared and go to New York," he said. "They're scared. They're so scared of the pressure and the media. That's why I went to St. John's. People were like, 'Don't go to St. John's because you don't need the distractions.' I was like, 'I'm going here because I want to go here.' If I wanted to play for the Knicks, I would play because I wanted to play and I wouldn't feel no pressure from anybody."
Of course, as everybody knows, Artest is not afraid of anything.

it killed isiah's rep and coaching/executive career. it destroyed don chaney and lenny wilken's prestige. even larry brown had a hard time landing another coaching gig after one disastrous season despite back-to-back final appearance right before he came to new york.
madison square garden is cursed.

you can make fun of his boneheaded moves all you want, but scott layden already put the knicks in a horrible position before isiah took over with allan houston, shandon anderson, howard eisley, clarence weatherspoon, etc. the ownership didn't want to rebuild from scratch, so all isiah could do was to trade bad contracts for bad contracts.
plus you can't argue with the fact that he found good value from his draft picks: david lee, wilson chandler, nate robinson, renaldo balkman, channing frye. lee was a huge steal at #30. chandler and balkman were unknowns before the draft and they are solid NBA players. nate robinson was a steal at #21 considering that julius hodge, rashad mccants, yaroslav korolev, fran vazquez, martell webster, gerald green, sean may, antoine wright, ike diogu, joey graham were all drafted ahead of him.
i don't think any of isiah's draft picks turned out to be bust.
