Gerald Green

The Houston Rockets, in need of a bigger body, released Gerald Green on Saturday to make room for Mike Harris.

However, if Green played, practiced and most of all competed as hard as Harris, he would not be unemployed today. He has a sweet shot and can jump out of the building. Another team will likely take another shot to teach him how to play. It could be the Rockets.

"We have no formal plans for Gerald in the offseason except we will take a close look at signing him," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. "We feel the same way about Gerald now as before -- lots of potential."

They released a 6-8 guy, fora 6-6 bigger body? im not real sure how that works but it doesnt make much sense to me, unless you literally just want someone with more weight on him.

Could a team actually be going back in time, spending their money on a player with better fundametals instead of insane athleticism. I am pleased to hear this. Gerald Green will find a team that will give him millions over the off-season, maybe only just because he could win the NBA All-Star Dunk Contest again; however, this didn't save James White from going to Europe.

another case of a high school guy coming out toooooo early..no real feel for how the game is played, just a shooter..should have spent some time learning the rest of the game...

The celtics need to jump all over green, they were on the right track with him before they traded him, and he was a big part of the garnett deal, i mean the celts would have loved to keep him as a shooter that could have been a future replacement in the lineup for either paul or ray. hes only 22. bring him back to boston

We know Green can dunk and shoot, but he has lot of crappy plays too. Rockets have been bothered by injuries in recent years and they desperately need even the last man on the bench to play for every single minute. As long as Green fell some way off from such level, it is no a real surprise to dump him and go for Mike Harris - at least Mike Harris spent his last summer in Rockets gym.
Green can now look for a vacation in NBDL and see if he can dominant the floor. If he can, then he will be a hot commodity in the offseason.

First I have to say I am a HUGE Carl Landry fan. That being said, I watched Mike Harris all summer and I love his game. He was my pick to make the roster during the preseason, after his insane summer workouts. He is kind of a hybrid Landy/Hayes. He is a bit shorter than Landry, more offensive-minded than Hayes, but just as scrappy and grimey as both of them. I am very excited that he is back. As for Green, maybe he can look at himself in the mirror and realize that at 22 he has already been traded or waived from 3 teams. It's time for a change of heart. Team concept dunks.

Oh, as an interesting side note, Harris has spent the year playing for the Chinese Basketball Association. With the Rockets' close ties with the CBA, through Yao, I wonder if this was so we could keep an eye on him. Just a thought, but it would be interesting to know if we had a secondary farm league beyond the NBA developmental league to keep tabs on unsigned players that we liked. Did we ship him their this summer with both sides knowing he could be a future pick up? Not sure, but I like the idea.

I disagree with Fernando G. Yeah, Gerald can jump way out of the gym, but we have seen many guys that have unbelievable talent, but no idea how to play, nor the work ethic to improve. Just think of Stromile Swift. Now think about Chuckie Hayes. 'Nuff said.

I am glad that Green is gone. What is the point.. he wont get any chance of playing when Rockets have a deep line up.... he shoud learn that is not all about dunking and should go back to college to learn how to play basketball.

Not to get off on a philosophical tangent, but sola_ed2000's post is so typical of modern "intellectual" discussions. "I know nothing...and I don't want to know." Then shut up. Watch for Mike Harris to pick up a nice following just like Landry and Scola has. It's impossible to hate a hustler like Harris, unless he is out-hustling your team. Rockets need players, not egos. Bye Green.

Stern, it's time to invest in the D-League and keep these guys harnessed within our leagues. Expand overseas through the D-League not the big boys. The international economies cannot afford the million dollar contracts of the big boys. Stories like this are good when we keep our hands on these guys!

I love Gerald and I am a celtics fan. He was supposed to be the next TMac, who by the way stank back in Toronto, but exploded when he got to Orlando. Its about time Gerald becomes a legitimate player. If only he could stay on his feet on defense, he wouldnt be having any of these problems.
