The Timberwolves' first draft pick this year, Spain's Ricky Rubio(notes), has to give his current European team about $6.6 million in order to get out of his contract. And the ‘Wolves can give him $500,000 toward that.
And the St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting that that number may be negotiated down to $3.3 million and Rubio would be able to pay off some of the money over a few years. The word is that Rubio and his reps have found $600,000 in endorsement dollars in Minnesota that will all come to him if the 18-year-old point guard can get out of the deal and move to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
