What seemed to be a four-man battle for the Heat's starting point guard job is down to a two-man race. For now. Injuries left the Miami Heat with just two available point guards for Tuesday's practice at Bercy Arena in preparation for Thursday's preseason game against the New Jersey Nets.

Chris Quinn and Shaun Livingston missed the two-hour workout and will likely sit out the first of Miami's two exhibition games in Europe. The Heat plays the Nets again on Sunday in London as part of the NBA's Europe Live Tour.

Quinn sprained his left ankle late in Sunday's overtime loss to Detroit in the preseason opener. The Heat continues to take a cautious approach with Livingston, who is in the final stages of recovering from a devastating injury to his left knee that has sidelined him the past 20 months. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after Tuesday's practice that Quinn and Livingston experienced some swelling during the team's eight-hour flight from Miami that landed in Paris at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

''Everything's minor right now,'' Spoelstra said. ``That flight kind of swelled things up slightly. They both could have moved around better if we were in Miami. We'll see how [they] are feeling tomorrow.''

Quinn, the likely front-runner for the starting job, received treatment on the ankle before and after Tuesday's practice and is scheduled to receive more treatment Wednesday. For now, the bulk of the workload falls on veteran backup Marcus Banks and rookie Mario Chalmers. Both spent time with the first-team offense in the two-hour session.

The Heat don't really need a "point" gurad if the load the floor with ball-handlers...especially if they're going to play up-tempo ball.... I like the four guys they have it will be a nice rotation...they can go big with livingston (if he's healthy) they can go defensive with either Banks or chalmers...and quinn if they want an added 3 point threat...
Davis at SG...??? WTF!!! why dont they just go with...
    PG - Tim Hardaway
    SG - Voshon Lenard
    SF - Jamal Mashburn
    PF - P.J. Brown
    C - Alonzo Mourning
and off the bench Ike Austin, Dan Marjerle...

#12 you are in the other time space shuttle, wake up. I said in my previous comment that if Miami will remain healthy they're dreadful as a team with a very focused coach in Coach Eric Spoelstra they'll really go places but with Quinn and Shaun L listed on a day to day observation I am afraid that they'll make a repeat of last seasons shameful achievement the cellar dweller, but thats the risk of the business taking previously very injured but talented players. I just hope Shaun Livingston will really make it this season. I will be for Miami but...................
my heart is for LA. Lakers forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lakers will make a repeat, 3peat, 4peat and the record breaker 5th consecutive NBA Championship trophy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to BURST your over inflated Laker bubble there Basilio B, but in order to "BREAK" the record for consecutive NBA championships, your beloved Lakers would have to WIN 9 in a row because BOS' won 8 consecutive titles.....seems like BOS is ALWAYS stopping LA from doing 1 thing or another

#14... My line-up suggestion was merely a joke in response to the idiot who said that Ricky Davis should start at shooting guard this season....
I dont even know what ur talking about "in ur previous comment" anyway ur comment about how many time the Lakers will repeat proves that YOU ARE THE ONE ON ANOTHER TIME SPACE SHUTTLE...ur an even bigger idiot for thinking the Heat will be as bad as last season, with a Healthy Wade, and Beasley the best player in College last year, Marion with a full training camp with the Heat under his belt , a new coaching Philosophy, and none of the selfish "old" men we had last year...
Maybe you didn't watch the olympics...but WADE IS BACK!!!! Kobe knows it, and the rest of the league knows it...hey may not win it all, but they won't be basement dwellers...trust me

There is a better chance of Drazen Petrovic coming back from the dead to play at point guard this year then shaun Livingston. The guys career is over. The heat will have a nice tax right off for the next two years.....
