It has been 10 days since the Pau Gasol trade, but reactions are still trickling in. Count San Antonio Coach Gregg Popovich among those who disapproved of it according to the Los Angeles Times.

"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension," he told SI.com "There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

Popovich was then told that Memphis General Manager Chris Wallace had challenged NBA executives to criticize the deal publicly instead of spreading unattributed opinions comparable to what Wallace called "pillow talk."

Said Popovich: "Well, there you go. I'm on the record."

It is a silly deal for Memphis. But then and again no deals are of equal value. Gasol wants a ring, Garnett wants one too! So to beat the Spurs, those teams got to gather two to three all stars. It is quite a joke. But this is what happens when some teams seemed to play so well!

I don't think his point is that he couldn't get Gasol. I think his point is why is Memphis trading away their best player. It's not like he's 34 or something in that neighborhood. Sometimes these teams make trades that seem to keep them perpetually bad. I'm a Hawks fan and they seemed to do it for years. The JR Rider trade was the best example. Ever since then, they have made trades that have hindered instead of helping the team. The Johnson trade is the rare exception in Atlanta's case.

Popovich is just whining. Memphis has financial problems, and they are looking to restructure their franchise, possible selling it to a different owner. they acquired:
Jarvis Crintenton, a potential superstar (next dywane wade).
They also will get 2 (1st round draft picks for 2008 and 2009)
They got Kwame Brown (a good back up Center)

He is jealous, Memphis got 3 players + Pau gasol's younger brother (22) and 2 first round pick +cap relief to a player who didn't wanna trade, they can rebuild with or without hi they wont make the playoff why pay $20M and don't make the playoff trade him save money and get a chance to build with a younger taller player and get two first round pick,

Being a champion several times, I never thought Pop is this bitter and dumb! As discussed several times, it was a fair deal from two different perspectives. If it were a one-to-one Gasol-Brown deal, I would agree with Pop. But it was far from that, Kwame's contract was just a sweetener. POP STUPID AND BITTER! Go Lakers!

This might sound a bit bizarre, but the griz got what they wanted, cap relief and a future stud(qoute me on that). You are crazy to think that you are getting equal value for him and his humungous contract. dont tell me that crap that the lakers were the only one informed, gasol was being shopped for over a year. Just face it that only the lakers and Buss got the balls to pull this one and take the luxury tax hit. at least face the facts pop if you cant stand to face your own cratered face.

I agree with Pop 100%. There are so many teams out there that Memphis can deal with so as to acquire better players at lower cost for their team to pay. Why Memphis took a talent that couldn't almost approximate Gasol's skill and talent is beyond comprehension. I think it is all because of that Jerry West connection. Memphis should be investigated on this brouhaha. LAL and Memphis were just waiting for the opportune time to execute the deal. If you ask me, that deal could have been consummated earlier had Memphis taken on the number one overall pick in the June Draft. They just delayed it.
At least Boston and Minnesota had so much decency in dealing Garnett for 7 Celtics players which included a 20-10 (points-rebounds) performer.
    Greedy!!!

dude, yeah, there were a lot of teams(bulls, nets, etc), but just like I said neither wanted to take the luxury tax, no one had the balls when gasol was being shopped, its not LA's fault that pau landed in their laps, people just got scared when they knew it was LA getting him, would the buzz or pop(pun intended) be the same if others got him??dont think so,

This is ridiculous, another trade in the nba that has fans and coaches all fired up with smoke blowing out of their nose and ears...have we all forgotten about the trade that brought "cry baby" vince carter to new jersey from toronto...there wernt many protests against that one...toronto didnt get nothing in return, they got the first round pick who happened to be joey graham...and alonzo mourning who didnt even play for the raptors...the league has to come down hard on this, and realize its ruining the game of basketball...this is ridiculous...i wonder whats nextt!!
