Nets adding Marciulionis and Sabonis?

The New Jersey Nets are about to change. While some folks are saying that new owner Mikhail Prokhorov isn't going to mess with the roster, another source told Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski that the team will try to add Russian and Lithuanian basketball legends Sarunas Marciulionis and Arvydas Sabonis to the team.

Wojnarowski also reports that with the team that he helped fund in Russia, CSKA, Prokhorov reportedly tried to hire Toronto Raptors assistant GM and Italian native Maurizio Gherardini but couldn't get it done. Perhaps he'll try again.

Meanwhile, the Russian Parliament is unhappy with Prokhorov, according to the Associated Press. His bid to buy the Nets is apparently being seen as unpatriotic' by a member of Russia's upper parliament chamber's sports committee. Folks there are burned up that the billionaire didn't put all his money into Russian sports.

Folks in Brooklyn, where the Nets are battling lots of local opposition to a new arena, no doubt feel the same way.

Saw some old tape of Sabonis, and if he played in the NBA in the 80's and early 90's, a lot of people may have their top five centers of all time rewritten. no way he's over Kareem and Wilt, but he'd be close. Everyone forgets he bested both Patrick Ewing and David Robinson in the olympics when they respectively played. He could shoot, pass, rebound, a true monster. Granted he had a huge size advantage. He was in the European leauges to the same degree Shaq was with the Lakers, and that there was no one to stop him, slow him maybe, but that's it. it's a shame that most of the American fans only saw the older version of him with the Blazzers, he truely was one of the best in the world when he was in his prime.

Sabonis had two torn ACL's and two ruptured achilles tendons before he ever played in the NBA.
Auerbach & Hubie Brown said he was better than David Robinson, Kareem or Walton in their primes.
I saw him make The Admiral look like a SG trying to play against Yao. Sabonis was a SKYWALKER ( term used to describe jumpers back in the day), and had Superior Skills too.
