Stephon Marbury, who will take his third leave of absence from the team since his father, Don, died earlier this month according to the New York Daily News.

Marbury missed practice on Thursday. He dressed but did not play in Wednesday's win over the Cavaliers due to flu-like symptoms, according to the team. Marbury has missed six of the last nine games since his father died after being stricken by chest pains at the Knicks-Suns game on Dec. 2.

Thomas said Marbury won't join the team in Charlotte and wasn't sure when he would be back. The Knicks play the Lakers at the Garden on Sunday.

He is nothing but an annoyance. He and I.Thomas should get a one way ticket to Europe and play their. It's the only chance at success they have.

I don't blame him for taking a leave. His team has issues, his father died, it is what it is. Come on back Steph and show these fools your game!

When regular people who have regular jobs have a death in the family, do they get a month of paid bereavement time?
He makes $280,487.80 PER GAME! Yes, that's right, 280 thousand dollars per game
He should be back at work by now. Come on this is ridiculous. I honestly know how hard it is to lose your father, cuz I did, but you shouldn't be able to just not show up for work cuz you feel bad. How many of you can go into work, and say "Oh I lost someone in my family, can you pay me for the next month or two while I not show up for work?" I mean, come on. What's with this guy? Get back to work already.

I for one am tired of people bashing Steph. Is he the second coming of Walt Frazier; certainly not. Nor is he the best point guard in the league. But you know what?; he IS the best point guard the Knick's have and the man NEVER gets enough credit for being a player who has given an awful lot back to the community. Steph is a good guy and by no means the only problem with the Knick's.

Trivia question just for you Keith; Name any other NBA player in the history of the league who donated sneakers to every single kid who plays high school ball in the city where they played?

Come on...a third absence??? Let me try that at my job... Oh yeah...I would be unemployed.
My father passed a couple of years ago...it was hard, but what he instilled in me was a work ethic and I continued with my family after a couple of days. I couldn't stand the thought of him "looking" down and seeing me make a mess of my life.
I guess it was instilled in Marbury to fall apart. If you want a trade..."man" up and ask for one...stop hiding...

I sympathize with Stephon Marbury because of his loss, and I give him credit for introducing a sneaker that kids won't steal and kill one another for. But that does not mean he should not be held accountable for his performance as a NYK on and off the court, which has further tarnished the franchise. As for his absence, the NYKs don't seem worse without him which says alot about what the team is getting for $20 million.

Agreeing with the 3rd absence is a bit much. He's missed 6 of the last 9 games. "Most" people don't even get leave for berevement, let alone that much time (not including inbetween games). I'm sick of the demands people make, like just because they are superstars and make millions we should feel more pity or remorse because they lost a loved one. Lots of people lose family members all the time. Not everyone gets paid millions of dollars to miss work while others not only don't get the time, they don't have the money to even pay for funeral costs. I wish someone would pay me $1.7 million dollars I should be earning for games I should be playing. If I had that, I'd make sure all of the kids in New York got sneakers too.

Everyone responds to grief in different ways, some deal with it head on by keeping busy and moving on with life, and some need time to themselves to put it all back together.
Not fair for anyone to judge Marbury, as no one understands what's going on in his mind. He's blessed to have an employer who understands and is willing to work with him, most wouldn't have the patience to put up with it.
That being said, he also needs to realize that life does go on, and put it back together soon and get back to his J-O-B (if you can call playing basketball for a living a job).

i lost my mom in 1986 after she fought a long couragous battle with brain cancer she was only 44 and i was only 19 it devastated my family and myself i was extremely close with my mom as marbury was to his dad i did have a long grieving period however i also had to go on with my life i had to work i had responsibilities to the family business i could not take extended leave of absences because i would not have gotten paid my mom would not have wanted us to grieve she would have wanted us to be strong and move on i can relate with marbury but enough is enough to a degree he is using his dads death as a way to not also be part of this slow death called the knicks which is disrespectful to his father he needs to man up and go play because i am sure his dad would want him too we cant all just sit back and collect millions some of us have no choice but to carry on

what ever happened to compassion? i understand sports fans are passionate and love to express themselves (especially anonymously), but if you're a true basketball fan, then why not show some respect to a man that recently lost his father. do this by saving your Stephon-criticisms for a more appropriate time.

oh no, hes missing work...oh no, he gets paid millions of dollar...get over it, his father died. it doesn't matter what profession you are in, how much money you make, if he needs this time to get over his fathers death, then he should be allowed it. how would any of you feel if your father died, you missed work, and everyone starts bashing you just because you make more money then them?

Issiah & Stephon would get eaten alive in Europe. That is where the best basketball is played.
Even with alot of Euro players busy playing in the NBA, the talent is still too good for them.

Stephon it must be difficult to report to work after your father's death and you must be depressed so take the leave and give some of your some of the leave money to some people in New York who can not afford a funeral expense for their family members at least one other depressed person who lost a family member. Your father would be happy in heaven looking down or give a scholarship to some people in your father's name. I hope you recover in god's speed.
    Take care
PS. Show the man some love people he lost his father at the game where he was watching him play.
