NBA - Sports Rumors

“LeBronThere seems to be a foregone conclusion going around that come July 1, LeBron James(notes) will sign a massive new contract for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But the New York Knicks have been clearing salary away as quickly as possible in recent years in order to try and bring in LeBron and another fellow big name or two (Dwyane Wade(notes)? Chris Bosh(notes)?) in order to try and All-Star their way to a championship as the New York Yankees just did.

Once folks in Cleveland were scared of this idea. Then they scoffed at it as the Knicks became the butt of jokes on late-night TV and in the arena. But now New York is starting to concern them again because Mr. LeBron James has said that he will consider any and all comers and that he has not ruled out moving to New York, according to the New York Post.

James has apparently said that when the free-agency window gets thrown open on July 1 next summer, he will be thinking like a businessman and considering what will be best for him and his family.

Sounds like he's thinking like a businessman already, starting to play chess with Cavs management through the media, making sure they know that this isn't a done deal. They've got to show him the dinero. Or someone else will.

The Knicks don't deserve to have a good team anymore. They should just permanently accept their position as the joke of the league. and Lebron would be making a huge mistake by coming here.

What an idiot. I hope to God Yahoo Sports didn't pay you for imparting this "breaking story" upon the public. I mean, we had no idea that LeBron was ever considering moving to New York. Wait...this just in. Biophysicists in England have just discovered that water is wet!

If LBJ wants a championship, he has to sign with a contender. I don't think the knicks are a contender, adding just one player doesn't mean all of a sudden is a championship team. the yankees actually spent a butt load of money to bring a winning team together. I can't see the knicks team spending a couple hundred million in order to win.

Look, weren't the celtics jokes in the league the year before they got KG and Ray Allen??? From what i recall, they only won like 20-23 games that year and then turned dramatically into championship contenders. Quit hatin' on the knicks. If they do sign 2 big name dudes and retain David Lee, I see them at least every year getting to the eastern semi's or finals and maybe even competing for championships. Oh yeah and the knicks CAN spend a couple hundred million in order to win b/c they have the MOST CAP space in the entire league by July 1st.

You are an idiot.....this is such old news. The Cavs will offer him more "dinero" than any other team because per the rules set by the NBA, they can. LeBron would possibly pick NY because of the size of the market and the benefits he would realize being in the NY spotlight. Whatever happens, happens. We've seen all of our stars leave before, so it wouldn't be a suprise.....however, they usually leave because of more money.....Cleveland will be able to pay him more than anyone and he still might leave! That would be the ultimate humiliation for us in C Town.

It honestly would be a mistake for Lebron to go to New York. He has a better chance to win in Cleveland. The Knicks are in deep trouble, and Lebron is NOT the answer to New York's problems. Lebron, stay in Cleveland, God knows that the people of Cleveland, need a BREAK. You're an Ohioian, stay there and try to give the people of Ohio, SOMETHING to feel good about. Cleveland has lost C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee, and so many good players, only to see them do well for other clubs. Give Cleveland, and Ohio, something to feel good about!!!

Is it just too bad the Knicks will not have enough salary cap space to sign two stars. They currently have $27,000,000 locked up in Salaries for next season, and with the cap going down anywhere between $53-$57 it will leave them with about $26-$30 mill free space, without Nate Robinson and David Lee. This means if they didn’t bring either back they could bring Lebron and a mid-level free agent in. Contrary to popular belief, you can only exceed the salary cap to sign your own players. This Knicks would have to unload Eddy Curry and nobody in this league is dumb enough to take that contract. The Nets are a bigger threat to land Lebron then the Knicks are, unless Lebron wants to play with a starting 5 of Duhon, Curry, Jefferies, and a mid level free agent. And even if the Knicks win the lottery, their 1st round pick this year is unprotected. The chances 23 landed in the Big Apple with the Knicks are highly unlikely, New Jersey is a possibility.
