Los Angeles Lakers forward Ronny Turiaf, a restricted free agent, got the big money he was seeking Thursday, about $17 million over four years. What remains to be determined is who will be paying him, the Golden State Warriors, who signed Turiaf to an offer sheet, or the Lakers, who have seven days to match that offer.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak had no comment upon receiving the paperwork. But matching the Warriors' offer would seem a stretch for the Lakers, already over the salary cap and at the tipping point for the luxury tax, to more than quintuple the yearly salary of Turiaf, a reserve who averaged 18.7 minutes last year and only 9.8 in the postseason. The 25-year-old Turiaf's salary last season was $770,610.

"It would be presumptuous for me to say what the Lakers will do," said Mark Bartelstein, Turiaf's agent, "but they do have a logjam of guys and it's tough to keep everybody happy."

For Turiaf, who averaged 6.6 points a game during the regular season, it's about more than just the money, Bartelstein said.

"Being with the Warriors would be a better opportunity from a playing standpoint," he said. "He's a young guy who desperately wants to play a lot of minutes. He wants to find out how good a player he can be. Looking at the Warriors' front line, there's nobody like him."

Ronny is the only physical guy that the Lakers had. This is bad for the lakers. Teams are gonna push them around even more so than last year.

So the article says Turiaf played 9.8 minutes during the playoffs, but the lakers were able to beat the spurs, jazz, and nuggets. Out of those 3 the jazz are a pretty tough and physical team, yet the lakers managed to get by them. Just because Turiaf will probably be gone doesn't mean the lakers are going to become one of the softest teams out there. Too many people ride the bandwagon and just write the lakers off as soft without knowing anything. Bynum will be back in the middle that already adds toughness, and the Lakers aren't soft. It's irritating to see so many people call the Lakers soft just because of one series. I concede that Boston were much more physical then them, but i wish these bandwagon riders would stop calling the lakers soft over one series.

You just got rid of KOBE'S most physical Team mate. Lakers need a cooper type player. Thats all they need. Some one who is fearless and can come over the top to block a few of KG's shots. Some one to shut down a teams pt guard. Some one who can give you a out of no where ally oop, and insight the players and crowd. Some one like a shawn marion, but can play defense. Walton comes from questionable stock, get rid of him, and may be the Machine, who played like a washing machine in the finales, and role with a defensive player who is hungry!. COME ON LAKERS. LETS DO IT NEXT YEAR. DO it for LAKER PRIDE. Stop playing so soft.

good for turiaf not wanting to play with a rapist, egotistical, adulterer. no matter how many points he scores or how many rings he wins, he will never be the best, and to know that must be tormenting to him. the money must make his wife feel real good. they have a word for white people who spend most of their adolesent years alone and move on to rape, demented.

A lot of the nba is full of players who think (and do) get a way with a lot of unethical things. whats that got to do with basketball playing and winning championships? this id the los angeles lakers where talking about. thats all we do is win championships. and players know this when they are paid to play for los angeles. what happen to laker pride. boston had an edge. all of those great players went back in the locker room during the season and reminded the players what it was about. pride on the court. off the court, well throw the first stone. they need to play with some heart.

if turiaf leaves, the lakers are dead. they may have a powerful starting lineup but without good bench players any team would fail.

    Looks like Antonio Daniels.
Turiaf will be missed. He's better than Radmanovich.
No Celtic fan should talk about "soft" when Paul Pierce got CARRIED off the court with...what?
