Lakers show interest in Posey, Barry

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to wait for Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf, but they have fall-back plans in case their restricted free agents don't re-sign with them.

The Lakers have talked with representatives of Boston Celtics small forward James Posey and veteran San Antonio Spurs sharpshooter Brent Barry to gauge the free agents' interest.

Posey, a key reserve for the Celtics, is expected to draw the full mid-level exception of five years and about $30 million, though the Celtics have said they consider signing him an off-season priority. Posey, though, is studying his options, primarily on championship contenders that include the Lakers, said his agent, Mark Bartelstein.

"I would say so," Bartelstein said. "When you get a taste of a championship, you want to keep winning them. The Lakers are a great team."

Posey, 31, averaged 6.7 points and 3.6 rebounds a game in the playoffs for the Celtics, including an 18-point outburst in the pivotal Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Posey was also on the Miami Heat team that won the championship in 2006.

Barry, 36, spent the last four seasons with the Spurs. He averaged 7.1 points last season, making a commendable 42.9% of his three-point attempts. He is a career 40.7% shooter from three-point range.

yah! is there any way that the lakers can get stephen jackson??
    does his salary fit?
i think the the lakers would be better if they had a "bully" type-a player that knows his role and CONSISTENT night in and night out.
    ARTEST, CAPTAIN JACK..
i'd rather have cpatain jack than artest theough.. he shoots the 3 well enough..
that would free up space for bynum and gasol down low..
    fisher/farmar
    kobe
    stephen jackson
    gasol
    bynum
PLUS GET RID OF WALTON and, MBENGA and THE REST OF THE LAKER SOFTIES!
    PEACE OUT!

Oh god please kill me now just as i thought mitch isn't as good as i thought and the gasol trade was just a fluke, mitch is holding strong to what he said lakers won't be big players in the free agency market and will look to acquire a veteran who can play limited minutes. It's sad i just hope bynum is worth the 80 mil because come next year when the lakers hve made the stupid mistake of not pursing a defensive powerhouse and decided to go with just bynum as their only real line of defense then thats just gonna lead to a repeat of this year. I hope neither of these players are acquired the last thing we need is more F*CKING SCRUBS!.

No way they will get either one. First, Berry is to old. Secondly, $30 million for posey? Come on get real. Get someone for defense.

I think that either one of these guys would be good for LA. Posey is a "stud" defender who can shoot. Barry can only shoot but he is very consistent with his shot.

The Lakers did an excellent job last year. But so many thought the West was the best. Thank God the NBA doesn't split the playoff brackets. putting the east 2 in the west 2 space and the west 2 in the east 2 spot etc... I think if that was the true scenario in the Playoffs, there might have been a championship playoff between two east teams. The 1 through 8 spot in the west was only separated by 7 games. What it says is mediocrity. The Lakers have to decide if that is their goal. Evidently it is. Not clearing cap space and settling for the Mid Level exception shows that. With so many free agents the Lakers should have taken care of this much earlier. Now we have to deal with the same lame ducks we had before. Placing all their hopes on a young Bynum could cost them dearly in the long run. I hope all stay healthy.
