Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes(notes) went up for a rebound on Friday against the New Orleans Hornets and came down off-balance and tore the lateral meniscus on his right knee. He said the doctor expects him to be out for eight weeks, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Barnes is set to have surgery on Tuesday. Coach Phil Jackson will miss the 30-year-old. "He creates a lot of easy shots," Jackson said, according to the paper. "He's a kind of kid we don't have to run anything special for him. He finds things out of the flow with what we do. He runs himself into baskets."
Barnes is averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20.8 minutes this season.
