Chris Duhon

Chris Duhon could be on the verge of making a decision, possibly as early as Thursday according to Newsday. He met with the New York Knicks on Tuesday and the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. He was expected to have discussions with a few other teams, but two days after the opening of free agency, Duhon is ready to take an offer.

The Knicks wouldn't offer much in long-term security, but they did offer opportunity. Stephon Marbury is still on the roster and his future with the team is uncertain — does he play out the remaining one year of his contract or do the Knicks cut ties before the season? — so Duhon could be viewed as his replacement in the starter's role. Or he's a versatile depth player that essentially replaces Fred Jones, who is an unrestricted free agent. The Marbury factor will hang over the team all summer until a decision is made.

If Duhon takes the Knicks offer, that doesn't necessarily end the Knicks work in free agency. Some reports suggest that Duhon was offered the full mid-level exception salary (it's expected to be just shy of $6 million per), but we believe it's more like a little more than half of the mid-level, or about $3.2 million per, which is about what Duhon made last season in Chicago. That would leave a little more money left to spend on some other veterans who may help. Maybe a shot-blocker or low-post defender? Would $2.5 million or so be insulting to a 36-year-old Kurt Thomas? What about using a little less and take a chance on Chris Andersen?

being a knick fan, i have to say that the knicks are finally (after 5 years of idiotic moves) looking to be smart in free agency and trades. they are clearing cap space and giving mediocre players the mediocre contracts they deserve. i hope they do make a run at lebron in 2010, but with his ties to brooklyn and jay-z, he will most likely become a net. oh well, at least we won't be paying players to not play for us anymore (thank you isiah) and have the highest payroll in the league for the worst record in the league. i don't mind losing as long as we are not paying big bucks to do it (see yankees and mets).

if Doo was smart...he'd sign with NY. unless they ask him to shoot...he should put up some decent assist #'s and pad his stats for a better deal in 2 years(they won't sign him longer than that). i'm happy to see his services are actually wanted because just a year or two ago...nobody in the league besides the bulls were willing to give the guy a roster spot. while he's NOWHERE near what the knicks are thinking he is...he's a decent #2 pg. him as a # 1 is a sign of desperation but his #'s should be good enough to overcompensate any negativity the fans will have for his numerous shortcomings...guess we'll see

Knick fans be patient. Donnie isn't looking to win the championship this year with this move. He is making cap moves to position the Knicks for a run at guys like LeBron and Dwayne Wade who become free agents in 2010.

#3 duke it's obvious to me that either a) u don't watch many knicks games or b) u don't know anything about basketball. u can talk all u want about the "heart" d lee plays with but that didn't exactly translate into wins for the knicks did it? i like the guy but u fans who like to refer to him as "the knicks best player" sicken me. bottom line d lee is an awesome rebounder. that's it. he can't shoot. he can't handle the ball.

he can't defend the 3 or the 4 anywhere close to a level that would justify him being a 40 min a game starter earning max money (in other words he's no rodman or ben wallace). therefore u hafta try to capitalize on the over inflated perception of him to see if u can turn this one dimensional $hit into shine-ola aka a player of equal or better value or draft pick who won't command an exagerrated salary.

oh yea #3 duke. randolph may be selfish but he is NOT one dimensional. check the stats. he rebounds just as good as Lee AND scores 20 a night. he's also a better ball handler than Lee, with a Jump shot. that being said i don't wan't him on this team at this much money playin this many minutes. but he isn't one dimensional.

NY already has three pgs in Marbury, Robinson, and Collins. Why go after Duhon? No one is going to take Marbury's ginormous contract and NY needs to get rid of cap space anyway, so are going to keep him, so might as well play him. And from Duhon's perspective, he'd be better off going to Orlando because NY isn't go anywhere any time soon (Sorry Knicks fans).

i think the Knicks are making a good decision with Duhon. Marbury is negative in the Knicks locker room and needs to leave. Also another step forward to clearing cap space for Lebron James. But i did believe the Knicks should have made a stronger bid on getting Monte Ellis from free agency. He is more proven and has the speed to run which Mike Dantoni likes to do.

i agree with #24 Duhon is a fit and a classy athlete. I know that when Thomas was in charge,
we did all we could to not have class on the team.

I think getting Duhon is a plus. Marbury shouldn't get another chance, he's already gotten 5 and each year he creates bigger drama in the locker room. We only know of the stuff that the media has gotten, imagen all the garbage he produces that doesn't get caught. I've always given Steph kudos for his ball handling, and #s, but not only is his production declining, he is creating chaos with the other players and tainting the knicks organization. It's obvious that the players and us fans have had it. Get RID of Marbury! I wish him the best in Europe. Let's part ways!

Get Duhon, Ellis or somebody for the point. Keep Zack and Curry. Statements of their lack of ability are grossly overstated. D'Antoni needs to get them running the floor. Both are beasts AND CAN CO-EXIST. Marbury must go. He has apparently "poisoned the well" with his teammates so he must go. As to James, Jeffries, etc. how about having them all be closely monitored to stay in basketball shape or be cut/fined. If properly documented we could get rid of the "fat (not in shape)/lazy players" and clear cap space for unperforming players w/out running afoul of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement [Union]). The players don't have a right to be paid w/out a corresponding obligation to perform to some industry standard of effort. I'm not talking about cutting players because management thinks they aren't playing as well as they hoped. I'm talking about cutting players for behavior detrimental to the team such as becoming a fat, slovenly pig after getting a big contract. That sounds like a breach of contract to me!!!! Thoughts?.........

there was a rumbling from someone suggesting trading Marbury for Ben Gordon straight up. To coin boxer Larry Holmes phrase....Marbury couldn't hold Gordons jock strap !
Marbury is toast in NY....stick a fork in him...he is done.....OVERdone, in fact.
Only option, trade Marbury for a kilo of cocaine...at least it has some value on the streets of NYC !

Still can't figure out the purpose of Jared Jeffries and Jerome James. Demitri Nichols should have been signed and Fred Jones cut by the wayside. Balkman will have value in the Dantoni system because he can run the floor. He killed in summer league (i know) but he is steadily improving. Mardi Collins should not be on an nba roster. Leave Zach alone. How many 22 and 12 players are there in the league? Curry's what? 24? He's young an doesn't know how to play yet. They should have brought in Pat to instill some courage and passion in his game. Anyway, Marbury is one and done and Nate isn't a true point so any pure point will do. Lebron will be a net, Wade will go out west. Marion is way more feasible at the 3 with Crawford and a young point guard and Chandler shooting from the concession stand. 2011!
