Joe Smith's(notes) contract time has finally arrived. After sitting on the back burner all summer while other deals got done, Smith has apparently become a priority to various front offices.

The other day, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the 13-year vet was probably going to join the Atlanta Hawks, but now it appears the Cleveland Cavaliers would like to add 6'10" center/forward Smith to a roster already crowded with big fellas, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

After bringing Shaquille O'Neal(notes) on board earlier this summer to provide some big scoring relief to LeBron James(notes), the Cavs seem to have the upper hand in going out and getting players who just want to play for the chance at a ring.

If the Cavs somehow can't land Smith, the paper reports that it might try for the Golden State Warriors youngster Rob Kurz(notes).
