Once training camp opens next month, the New Orleans Hornets will be pushing to surpass last season's frachise record 56 victories and advancing beyond the second round of the playoffs. Athlon magazine, however, has the highest expectations for the Hornets this season, picking New Orleans to win the NBA championship.
The Hornets improved their roster in the offseason by signing swingman James Posey, who helped the Boston Celtics win their first championship this past June. They also signed Devin Brown and Sean Marks this summer.
Last season, the Hornets won their first Southwest Division title and finished second behind the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference standings. Star point guard Chris Paul finished the season first in the league in assists (11.6) and steals (2.7) and led the team with a 21.1 scoring average during the regular season.
