NBA - Sports Rumors

Luke Ridnour

Don't be surprised, with the Seattle SuperSonics also at the Orlando summer league next week, if the Miami Heat doesn't at least inquire into the availability of Luke Ridnour.

The Heat might also be researching the stability of Shaun Livingston's knee. The point guard, with almost no chance now of returning to the Los Angeles Clippers, shares the same agent as Miami's Dwayne Wade.

The Heat apparently does not have eyes for Chris Duhon, at least this early in the game. But don't discount Kwame Brown, who figures to come at a huge discount from his previous contracts.

One was a number 1 draft pick and plays scared, the other was also a first round draft pick and hasnt found his shooting touch and isnt stuff. Go get Duhon aleast he can pass and shot the rock. Or even give up the money an get ben gordon who wants 10million a season for some odd reason or even hinrich since they just got rose. Go get em or be last in the east again!

Kwame Brown, when with the Lakers, was their best defender. The Lakers with Kwame Brown as the starter were at least 15 games above 500, when he wasn't injured. Kwame Brown is 6'11 and weighs 270 lbs. The man can't be moved in the post. The man has excellent feet and plays the pick and roll very well. Kwame Brown is a serious defensive center and can go for a good team what Kendrick Perkins did for the Celtics.
Perkins averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds this season but the Celtics would have never won the Championship without his big body to clog the lane on defense. That's what a defensive center does. He clogs the lane. And Kwame Brown can do that better than Kendrick Perkins.

I mean people act as if they did see what Kendrick Perkins did to Pau Gasol. A defensive center versus one of the best scoring big men. Perkins took Gasol kept Gasol out of the lane and that created open lanes to the basket for the Celtics. The Celtics killed the Lakers by 39 points because Perkins kept Gasol out of the lane both on offense and defense. On offense he would use his big body to screen out the last line of defense, Gasol for the Lakers, and the Celtics were making lay-ups like crazy.
On defense Perkins kept Gasol from the basket and make Kobe Bryant try to beat the Celtics from the outside.
I'll take a good defensive center over a scorinig center who can't play defense any day of the year.
Defense win championships and Gasol can't play any defense.

The Celtic lost to the Lakers in game 5 when Perkins was not in the game. The Celtics beat the Lakers in the regular season and in the playoffs because Perkins pushed both Bynum and Gasol out of the lane. All Perkins needed to do in game 6 was to start the game and set the tone in the first and second quarters. Once the tone was set Gasol was out of it already. Then P.J. Brown and others were able to come in and put the final blows to the rest of the Lakers.
Plus everyone knows that Gasol is one of the weakest players in the league and can't hold his position in the post unless it's against another weak big man or a weak defensive team. That's just a fact.

A good defensive center plays the high screen and roll. The only way that happens is with quick feet. And that's what Kwame Brown has at 270 lbs.
The Lakers beat a bunch of weak teams in the regular season and got killed by the Celtics in the finals because the Lakers can't play defense, period! And they can't play defense because they big men are as weak as they come.

A defensive team like the Celtics beat one of the best offenses in the league by 39 points in game 6. They came back from 24 points down in the first half to beat the Lakers in the Staples Center. That's how terrible the Lakers are on defense.
In the regular season teams like the Knicks and the Sixers would fall behind agains the Lakers and in the second half they would make serious come backs and almost pull the games out.
That's the Sixers and the Knicks. Look at what the Celtics did in the same scenario.
In the regular season most teams don't play defense and you see teams like the Lakers do well. But it's all fake and the Celtics showed the basketball world just how fake the regular season is. The killed the Lakers...just killed the Lakers and the Lakers didn't have a chance at all.

mike t- chill out. you love getting attention. I think you need a girl.
No one is saying Gasol is not weak. And I personally dont think you know squat about basketball if you think that Perkins and now Brown are the reasons championships are won.
Get a better opinion to defend. And oh yeah, get a girlfriend. Lots of Filipino women available on-line if you have a job to bring them over. Go for it.

If you knew anything about basketball you would know that the only way a team plays top championship defense is with a big man. Every top level defensive team has a foundation based on the center. The center hold the low post position and that allows the other 4 players to play a more aggresive style of defense.
Defense doesn't start at the 1, 2, 3, or 4 spot. It starts and ends at the 5 spot. If you have a weak 5 spot then the 1, 2, 3, and 4 spots and left to hang in the wind. If players in the league know the 5 spot is weak then they attack the rim. That's just common knowledge. As Bill Walton likes to says: Championship are won in the defensive post. Kendrick Perkins Height: 6-10 Weight: 280. That's 280 lbs. that Gasol could move around.
Kendrick Perkins Height: 6-10 Weight: 280
    vs.
    Gasol: Height: 7-0 Weight: 260
Who do you think was going to win the defensive post? Oh, the Celtics by 39 points.

Pat Riley said, about a week ago, that he wanted a defensive center. Why do you think that is? Because with Wade, Marion and Beasly the Heat will have plenty of scoring. But without that defensive center the Heat will be lucky to make the playoffs. The Heat with a defensive center can be a scary team.
