Grizzlies moving on without Iverson

“AllenIt isn't clear what Allen Iverson(notes) is going to do next so the Memphis Grizzlies are apparently making plans without him, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

It's not like the team isn't used to being without him. He wasn't practicing with the team for a long stretch due to a preseason hamstring injury. The 1-6 Grizzlies face the Portland Trail Blazers at home tonight and Iverson is not expected to be in the house.

He's been missing since last Saturday when he left the team for a supposed family matter after only playing three games for the team. And general manager Chris Wallace hasn't apparently spoken to Iverson since last weekend. It's not looking good for a quick return if there is a return at all.

"Iverson is a big part of this team and we're behind him, but we have to keep on pushing," forward Zach Randolph(notes) said. "I hope the fans continue to support us. We're working hard every day. We're really trying to pull this thing together." "

The likeliest scenario appears to be that Iverson will retire.

He was a cry baby when he left detroit ripping apart the coaches saying he was never told he would be a come off the bench player. That he would be a starter. Al couldnt put up the numbers and was moved to the bench. So he goes to another team and what do they do? Put him on the bench. Hey iverson your getting older, lost a step and now you are crying because again you find yourself on the bench. two different teams for going on 2 years and they both put you on the bench, hmmm who are you going to blame now about this one?

    WAKE UP NEW YORK !!!!!!
STOP BEING SO UPPITY ABOUT WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE !!!!!!!!!
    TRADE DUHAN FOR IVERSON.
    Iverson still has it !!!!!!
Give us a reason to watch a game
Iverson isnt a cry baby, he just speaks the truth and doesnt kiss everyones ass.....
The real reason he got ran out of Philly is that GM Billy King needed a scapegoat to save his job. He was the real guy on the hotseat. Then he concocted some BS story about Iverson to take the heat off.
Last year his points and assists were great.
AI is a winner period. He lives to win games.
In this day and age when a real cry baby like Lebron cant even shake hands ,and Kobe can rape and then payoff his wife and the victim, I will take AI on my team anytime.
Guys with his talent are rare. Just look at all the lame players they have hyped over the years that couldnt hold a candle to AI.
NEW YORK....................GO GET ALLEN IVERSON !!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE THE FANS EXCITED !!!!!!!!

Sorry to say AI you aren't as good as you once were, if you come to grips with that you might get a back up roll. Oh yeah you might be able to score some nights still but you really could not stop anybody.

New York would do better with their belief that Lebron will come to a non-contending New York team than to sign Iverson. Retire.

#9 - Billups trade was good. Dumars begins the rebuilding stage at the perfect time. The Pistons had 6 years of Eastern domination and only won 1 time which is rather pathetic, considering how great that team was and how they could have won at least 3 out of 6 times. Problem was that they did not care.

I guess I represent the minority opinion here but I would play Iverson ahead of Conely. Why? Three reasons: (1) Iverson is better right now than Conley. (2) Iverson is a superstar, nobody ever played harder than AI, so dont offend him just to prove who is coach. (3) people will pay to watch Iverson. They will tune in on TV to watch Iverson. Iverson might be a crybaby when it comes to sitting on the bench and watch lesser skilled players lose the game. But he is not a crybaby when it comes to mixing it up in the game. He doesnt shy away. Don\'t like watching the crybaby on the bench? Then put him in the game. Conley will still get his minutes and be able to learn and progress. He just wont be the starter. He doesnt deserve to be the starter ahead of Iverson. What has he ever done?

Do you really believe this is about ability? The guys a no show now days, has an excuse for everything he does wrong. He signed a contract to play. If it wasn't in his contract that he would start then the team can do what they want. Clearly no other team was interested, Period! It doesn't matter how good he was yesterday and it never will be. It is about what have you done for us today? He didn't make practices, he then was injured, then 3 days at practice, then he came off the bench 1 game. Cried about not starting, played a second game, cried about not starting. Then he took his basketball cried and went home. Who cares. In professional sports this has become an every day occurence. Bye Iverson, Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as you leave. It's that easy.

Let Iverson continue playing with himself, which is what he has done for a number of years now. As a point guard who did not distribute the ball and a ballhog who could be counted on to hit 40% on a good night, he has been a liability for years. Truly a player who makes the players around him worse, not better.

HA HA HA HA HA HA! Hey Iverson, you really showed the Grizzlies. You took your ball and went home. Nobody cares! Your Prima Donna routine has played for the last time. You are not wanted by any NBA team. Now you can gather your homies and terrorize the casinos full time.

If iverson retires that would be hella weak. idk if anybody else realized this but iverson had his "family issues" right after kobe passed him on the all time scoring list while AI was in the building! (MEM@LAL). in reality iverson must be shook as hell and doesnt want to play anymore which would be really sad because i still like the guy.

this sounds more like a bunch of cry babies on here. what facts, if any do you guys have to bash this guy? if the owner said it was family matters that needed to be tended to, respect that and stop making up stories. whoever said he doesnt distribute the ball needs to shut up. the man has a career avg of 6.2 assists. thats much better than most of the point guards in the lead and he did the bulk of that at the 2 spot. u clowns need to get a life and get of AI's back. if he is so old and slow as everyone claims, put your best defender out there and try and stop him, i guarantee it aint happening. this league is full of robots and people scared to speak their own mind. AI just happens to not be one of them and he will forever be chastised for that. its amazing that the Grizzlies lost games with him on the bench, so how is it going to hurt to have him in the game?

Yes, Iverson has definitely lost a step.......Yes, he is no longer in his prime........Everyone knows this........Everyone also knows that the Grizzlies are struggling, and not off to the start that the winners on their team (Mayo, Gay) expected.........I say start him over Conley for 5-10 straight games and make a decision from there BASED ON RESULTS.......While I think Conley will develop into a solid PG given another year of experience, starting Iverson gives them 2 guards that can handle both the point as well as the 2 spot in AI and Mayo....Conley will still get ample PT as a backup/6th man........What do they have to lose right now at 1-6?
