Good news on injury front for Lakers

Pau Gasol

The Los Angeles Lakers, of course, have managed to stay above the Western Conference scrum despite their own spate of injuries the Los Angeles Times reported.

Pau Gasol will not travel with the team to Oakland for Monday's game against Golden State, coach Phil Jackson said, although a return Wednesday against Charlotte or Friday against Memphis appeared possible. Gasol has missed five games because of a sprained left ankle.

Another 7-footer, Chris Mihm, will begin practicing later this week after reporting no pain since having a screw removed last month from his surgically repaired right foot. Andrew Bynum (left knee) is still at least two weeks away from returning, and Trevor Ariza (right foot) is not expected back until the playoffs begin.

Nice mop, let me use his head to clean my garage floor. The Lakers are the most overrated and over taked about team. Untill they prove themselves in the playoffs nothing matters. The Spurs are still the team to beat.

I think the Lakers and the Celtics are two of the best team when it comes to the bench and the starters. They have players that are proven to be clutch and effective. Bench players consistently contribute and I think that both these teams are buckled up as the season winds up and playoffs starts.

When the lakers get Bynum and Gasol back they will run the west. right now people are playing out of position. With Bynum at center, Gasol at PF, Odom at the 3 spot, MVP 24 aka Kobe at the 2 and Fisher running the point. That is a complete team right there. And yea if Kobe did not have Bynum or Gasol they would not be very good. But last time i checked its a TEAM GAME. Where would Jordan be with out Rodman or Pippin? He had no rings till he had good players around him.

Leo: you're probably right about the Lakers being behind Denver, but thats only because the west is the toughest conference unlike the east.

We still haven't see the real Lakers team yet. The team with all of their pieces in place. They have managed to hang around the #1 spot in the west for some time in spite of significant injuries to the middle of their game. I think that speaks volumes for their tenacity and depth. Not to mention an allstar performance from #24.

Phil needs to get off his A$$ and start coaching. When a coach cant get his team to play DEFENSE from start to finish thats NOT a great coach. The laker played no DEFENSE in the 1st half and half A$$ DEFENSE in the 2nd half and they still came back .If and when they play DEFENSE from start to finsh they can beat any team These LAKERS should win the games that remain if they dont its the NON COACHING they are getting . GET OFF YOUR A$$ PHIL !

Flight Number 23, you seem to forget that Kobe took the Lakers to the playoffs last year without having the talent he has now. Kobe is the best player in the league; better than Lebron, better than TD, better than anyone. He is no MJ, but he is the best at his sport right now!

what about the celtics? theres nothing to talk about until they prove themselves in the playoffs. unless u want to talk about them 2 or 3 years ago? paul pierce without garnett or ray allen =no ring. paul pierce with garnett and ray allen= 1st in the nba but they are goin to be the patriots of the nba. that doesnt mean a thing without a ring. we will talk about them after they win a championship. its all about the lakers.

Kobe is the best talent in the NBA but far from being the best player. His selfishness will come back and haunt LA in the postseason.
