NBA - Sports Rumors

“GilbertThe Washington Wizards got pummeled Saturday night 106-84 against the San Antonio Spurs but the tongue-lashing two of the team's stars took afterward from each other was much worse, according to the Washington Post.

The Wizards have played 12 games together this season but it doesn't appear that the 3-9 squad is getting any closer. Instead, it seems the team is moving apart irreparably. Just after the game Brendan Haywood(notes) was saying ego was getting in the way of the Wizards winning any games.

And even though Gilbert Arenas(notes) has stopped blogging, it appears he has no problem still letting the world know his feelings. He took the blame as a leader: "The NBA's a ship. It's going to keep moving. Teams are not waiting for us," Arenas said. "As the captain, I've got to steer my ship. If I've got to steer it to land until everybody wants to jump on, then I'm going to do it. . . . And we'll see who comes and follows. If nobody wants to follow, then the boat's just going to keep moving."

As he was talking, Haywood reportedly walked by and started singing Beyoncé's "Ego."

It's not looking good for the Wizards this season.

For a team that's been mediocore at best during the Arenas, Jamison, Butler era and haven't been past the first round since 2005 I don't know why some people especially in washington view them as title contenders. I don't see them beating boston, cleveland, orlando (definately no), miami or even atlanta in the playoffs.

Sounds like Haywood doesn't want Arenas to act like or say he's the team's leader, or to call the Wizzards his team.

Ace: I doubt anybody thought of them as title contenders. They did expect them to get to the playoffs and give a fight to big teams.

If they all realized Mike Miller is their best player (including Mike MIller) they'd be a better team. Lots of talent and plenty of time to right this ship. Arena's, just based on his salary has to be a team leader and Haywood is just a below average center and needs to get HIS attitude in check.

Team chemistry is essential to winning ball games, when and if the Wizards get their act together they have the talent to beat the best teams in the league:
    Boston
    Orlando
    Miami
    Cleveland
    Atlanta
    Dallas
    Spurs
Notice i left out Denver and the Lakers, while it's very early in the season. One of these two teams will take home the gold. Boston is one injury away from falling apart and Cleveland is garbage, Lebron's ego is the size of Mount Everest. His PR machine will say all the rights things until the end of the season, then off to NYC he goes.

First off, if you have been injured for 5 years, dont call yourself the leader!! The real leader is CARON BUTLER, and the BEST player on this team is ANTWAN JAMISON. Free Agent Zero can go back to posing for wax statues of himself near his $6 million swimming pool. Wizards better trade him before he gets injured again.

Nobody consider The Wizards as a title contender except Mr. Agent 0.
Arenas who every night shoots the ball 20 times at 39%, turns the ball over 4 times, yet he gets 20 million every year from the Wizards. How can a team win with such 'top' player?
Before questioning his teammates, Arenas should ask himself how to shoot and protect the ball better.
After three major surgeries, Arenas has almost completely lost his explosiveness. He is now the most overrated and overpaid players.

Clearly the team doesn't have a leader hence the whole problem. An oft injured Basketball player is no player at all. Relying on some guy that spends more time on the trainers table then on the court means the teams direction is spiriling out of control. But I won't place the blame on Arenas's shoulder only, The last I heard there are more than one player on this team. In most injury cases when one player is injured someone else steps up, When that doesn't happen the problem clearly rest on the coach and management. So let's pass a little of the blame around.

I think some of you have it a little wrong. Arenas does play a role here but on the court he's been a team player this year. I think it has to do with all the new pieces, shooting guards they have. Look they have Foye, Miller, Arenas, Boykins, and they still have Stevenson, Young, etc. You also have to couple in the fact that the Eastern Conference gotten much much better over the years. Add all that up and it shouldn't be a suprise that they're struggling.

This team have really good shooters unfortunately they're a 1-on-1 team on offense. Don't see plays to free these shooters. Why not start Foye/Boykins and move Arenas to shooting guard and draw up a play to free him up. And they don't have DEFENSE! You'd think they'd learn from the last time they got beat in the playoffs. They're making this game hard.
-- My NYKnicks let's just shoot for 3rd ------- worst in the league, jersey and minnesota got 1st and 2nd worst on lock! --

Wizards should have been gotten rid of Arenas...bring a point guard here that will play defense and offense, and cares about winning as a team like Allen Iverson. Wizards should have made the trade to the Grizzlies before Iverson was waived to relieve themselves of this huge contract Arenas clearly doesn't deserve.
