The Boston Celtics and Rajon Rondo(notes) have apparently agreed on a contract extension that will have him with the team for five more years at the price of $55 million, according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears.
Today is the deadline to sign such deals. Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, apparently called Celtics president Danny Ainge to let him know that Rondo was happy to just become a restricted free agent next summer and not sign an extension since he and Rondo weren't thrilled with the offers that had come in from Boston. Ainge apparently told him right that they would give Rondo the cash he wanted, which is a different song than the team was singing this summer when Rondo's name was supposedly in trade talks and the team publicly worried about his "maturity."
"As much as we were willing to wait his contract out, the Celtics stepped up to the plate to meet the original request," Duffy said. "This is a really fair contract. We wanted him to be paid like one of the top five point guards around."

rondo was only good cuz he plays with 3 future hall of famers.
if you get rid of him and plug brevin knight or jamaal tinsley in there, you would get the same result.

rondo stinks. PERIOD.
smrd thinks rondo and perkins should be the future cornerstone of the celts rofl. if they are, then the celts will be the worst team in the league.
the guy doesn't have any midrange or 3 point shots. shooting percentage don't mean crap cuz all his shots are layups and wide open shots when kg is getting doubled.
and can y'all stop pointing out that stupid playoff series with the bulls as the justification for this ridiculous contract? derrick rose (another young overrated, overhyped loser) can't defend anyone to save his life. that's why rondo's stats was so ridiculous. in fact, the entire series was the epitome of horrible defense.
i'm a celts fan and if i wanna shell out that much money, i woulda given it to a better player such as david lee or allen iverson instead of this scrub. hell, jamaal tinsley is an upgrade.
