The Los Angeles Clippers could very well be facing an unfamiliar new era come next season, with two centerpieces placing one foot out the door. For much of the last decade, Elton Brand and Corey Maggette have served as faces for the franchise. The pair took another step together Monday when both used options in their contracts to become attractive, unrestricted free agents, bypassing the final year of their respective contracts.

When reached by phone, Brand said he is aiming to re-sign with the Clippers. He is a two-time All-Star who has been with the team since 2001-02 but played in only eight games last season while recuperating from a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Now, the Clippers must decide whether they are willing to offer him a new maximum contract that could command $120 million over six years.

"It means I'm a free agent, but my intentions are to stay with the Clippers," said Brand, who was owed $16.44 million if he remained in his former contract. "That's always been my intention."

Maggette, the longest-tenured Clipper, who came to the team in the 2000-01 season, will also become highly sought-after and is believed to be seeking a deal of about $10 million a year. He was owed $7 million had he remained in his last contract, and the Clippers have maintained they hope to re-sign him. However, a sign-and-trade with him could also be in the team's plans. As with Brand, under free-agency rules, the Clippers can offer Maggette a higher salary for six years, in comparison with the five years that other teams can tender. Maggette, 28, averaged 22.1 points a game for the Clippers last season. He has long been among owner Donald T. Sterling's favorite players but has butted heads with Coach Mike Dunleavy.

wonder what kind of gas mileage these guys's cars get. my point is even opting out they are out for themselves. i wonder if kobe bryant has consentual sex with someone and they put a large object inside him after he says no, would he be happy? well actually, him, yes, but most , no. you can see it every time he plays. he smacks someone in the face and then cries like lying alduterer that he got a foul called. what a L.A. role model for ya. go browns.

at last, they opted out. if i were Brand, i'll return to the Bulls. they lack an inside scorer. Maggette's been rumored to return to Orlando, if i were Corey, don't do it. they've got Lewis, Redick, Evans, and Bogans already. Golden State might be a good destination since Baron Davis opted out already. Why don't you go to your bestbuddy Kobe Bryant and sign with the Lakers? it's a long shot. LA's got MLE to offer.

Brand needs to go to the Pistons! They need a rebounder and lo-post scorer. Not a 3 point shooter like Rasheed.

I really think both Corey and Brand are great ballers. With that said. Let Corey go and keep Brand. We already have Thornton on the come up. Chase Davis to the end of the earth and sign him. If possible sign and trade Corey and Levingston for a good point guard.

Both players should be singing a song made famus by a fantastic group... TAKE ME BACK.. TO CHICAGO!!!!!
Both of them have a history here and with Rose runing the point we can wipe the rest of the east out of the the gym and just might make a dent in the MJ aura.

I think the Bulls should put a package together to get Brand back because they need a low post presence. Trading Hinrich, Gooden & Nicioni for Brand because I feel as though it would benefit both teams. The Clippers not trying to be good just cheap & young. The Bulls need to get rid of those contracts first then need to dump the Hughes contrct & put some more pieces with him and try for Carmelo Anthony if the Nuggets still trying to trade him. I think the Bulls have the pieces to turn their team around as quickly as the Celtics.

Maggette had a solid season but his team went nowhere. This guy has been tryig to get paid for a while and the clippers just won't do it. Somebody will give him his money. Maybe Golden state since they will have roster space. Either way he won't be clipper again. As for Brand, we will have to wait and see. They may try to resign him, and other teams won't offer him too much because he has been injured a lot. We will have to wait and see how that pans out though. LAKER BALL BABY!

The Clippers need to rebuild. Trade Elton & Corey to the Bulls and get a lot back: Heindrich,
Ben Gordon, Hughs, Gooden and Nocioni. Win Win Trade and Salary's should work.

tom m, so you trade two huge play makers for a bunch of mediocre under achievers???? Bulls can't do it in the east so you think moving them to the west will make them better???? use your logic???? clippers won't do that
they will offer maggette 50 million over 5 years and he will stay ..and Brand most likely will sign a free agency whopper deal with Memphis.only because they have the only cap space for him..if he was smart he would take a pay cut and go to the Lakers

The Clippers should go to the Bulls w/Magette because they desperately need help at the Guard spot and the Bulls are loaded with talent at that position...like Tom M says...Win-Win for both teams.
