Stephon Marbury

The New York Knicks have not been under the salary cap in more than a decade. Having the chance to sign a major free agent "would be a monstrous thing for this franchise," new team president Donnie Walsh said. "You can turn something over overnight in a lot of ways if you can manage the cap the right way now."

That means the Knicks may be hesitant to trade Stephon Marbury's expiring contract (worth $22 million next season), because they would probably have to take back longer contracts in return.

Buy out his contract; the team will experience addition through subtraction.

Buy the contract out and you still will have the cap space next year--but less headache throughout the year. Lebron is going to be a Knick soon...Trust me.

The Knicks would have a slighty better chance at selling a pair of his sneakers at $5 than getting rid of Marbury. The only chance they have is if they can coach him to find and kill Bin Laden for the $20 million dollar reward and then give him for free to something and call it a wash.

I don't see another team wanting Marbury in a trade, except for the fact that he has an expiring contract. But it's so large, another team would have to give up too much to get him - bad value. Looks like they'll be forced to keep him or buy him out, and they're really looking at 2010 (LeBron and Wade). But if they don't make any improvement, will either one of them have any interest in coming there? Also figure LeBron will be more likely to go to Nets (and new arena in Brooklyn) with Jay-Z.

there is nothing wrong with marbury. get some leadership on the team and things will sort themselves out. he has talent, he doesnt need to be the leader, there just need to be others on the team that can handle that position...but there arent any.
bring back ewing and oakley as coaches...get some toughness in these guys

better just eat his contract for a year, cuz even if they got a great player as a free agent, the franchise is still on the bottom. Keep him and in the weak east, dont sign anybody, draft an impact player tthat can start now, and let guys contracts expire so cap room is had in 2009-2010 season. One year after 10 over the cap will make no difference. knicks need a portland trailblazer type of rebuild. draft top 10 next two year and build a foundation. keep only player that play and are coachable. but then still they need to figure out who will coach NY after this season too, which is the second most important thing behind player salaries getting off the books

what the knick need to do u is start fresh and buyout his contract and try to get some good young guys in the draft, and trade Randolph and richardson and possibly get younger guys that are team player and ont selfish too-bit scorers. Really the worst that would happen is they lose... nevermind they already do and often.

just keep marbury inactive and tell him to stay away from the team, that simple...also i would get rid of curry but keep randolph, yeah i know i am crazy but hey he rebounds... basically i wouldnt mind to see every1 go except a select few: crawford (good young player with potential), lee (do i even need to say y?), jeffries (is good at times), chandler (i'd prefer tyson though), robinson(instant energy), fred jones (good back up), and Morris ( if patrick ewing comes to ny and he gets in better shape and stronger he should be the beast in the east)
and in terms of coach i would give it to Herb, the teams he has coached b4 responded well to him plus he may bring over ewing... as for GM lets get West...imagine West and Walsh together? scary!!

I'm sure Marbury still has some game left in him but in reality nobody wants him, not with his attitude. Maybe the D-League could use him.

This is just a bad mix of bad players with bad attitudes and bad contracts........... sometimes talent don't win i.e. michigan in the 90's...... all 5 players top players in college............ starbury has been a bad apple everywhere he's played sorry not at G-tech but he was there for only one season.... if he in a place for more than 3 seasons then u will have problems from him.........a team of malcontents

I say keep Marbury and dump Isiah. Like someone said before me, Knicks should follow the Trailblazers' example and just work their way up. Keep the big salaries coming off in a couple of years, and draft an immediate impact guy this year. Also, don't forget just how bad the Eastern Conference is right now. Bring in a good coach who'll be tough on these players and force them to learn how to play team defense and offense, and there's a chance the Knicks can sneak into the playoffs next year at 7 or 8. It's still plausible, just take it all slow and eventually the Knicks can be one of the decent teams in the NBA again.

I think zeke messed this team so bad. Point is, if NYK is gonna be stuck with Starbury, better squeeze all he's worth so at least money paid gets a bit of value. GET A NEW COACH!

I can't even stand to watch what this once proud franchise has become. Until they clean house (hiring Walsh was the first step; MANY more are needed) I won't spend a dime or any time on this sorry excuse for a basketball team.

Since the Dolan's got the deep pockets, pay his salary and give him to some team that will take him for a lotto pick and future considerations. We need one of those to recover from giving the Bulls a lotto this past draft.

The only players worth keeping on the Knicks are Crawford, Lee, Balkman and maybe Randolph. Marbury was one of my favorite players but now he stinks. Curry is out of shape and foul prone and he cannot pass out of a double team to save his life. The rest of the team with the exception of Nate Robinson don't seem to care whether they win or lose, they play with no type of heart. You can't really judge Isiah's coaching skills with this team. Phil Jackson couldn't get this team to the playoffs.
