Atlanta Hawks trying to sign Joe Smith

“JoeJoe Smith(notes) has been in the league for 13 years and has played for a slew of teams, but never for the Atlanta Hawks. The team apparently wants to change that.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 6'10" forward/center Smith has been a target of the team all summer long, but Smith has also been on the back tier of a number of other rumors this summer. It appears he's still waiting to see how rosters shake out before he commits anywhere, but he should know by now that the Hawks reportedly consider him a front-line kind of signing.

Meanwhile, the Hawks are also taking a look at 7-footer Garret Siler, veteran 7' center Jason Collins(notes), Johan Petro(notes), Stromile Swift(notes) and Courtney Sims(notes).

I heard he wanted to stay with the Cavs if they offer him a contract which they planned on doing being they didn't get Hakim Warrick. I guess we'll see what happens.

Celtics just signed Davis and are in Luxury Tax Hell ! There is no way they Sign Smith unless there is a Multiple Player trade where they give up a few players . I really feel sorry for teams like Orlando ,cleveland and Boston if they Dont win a championship next year because they are making a Huge Investments this year !! The Spurs& Lakers have managed to build Championship caliber Teams without Breaking the Bank . But it will be fun to see these guys slug it out next year and see what happens !!!!!

Joe Smith should go to atlanta, if only to try to own the record of most teams played by one player (that is, if he doesn't own it yet).

if atlanta hawks will sign joe smith, the hawks is officially the DISASTER of 2009. look what happen to cavaliers when they signed joe smith. hawks should think twice before landing joe smith in atlanta. by the way joe smith is old and he is useless.
